I've added my skype details to the forum contacts and also to my website but I never show as "online" even when I know I am - anyone else had this problem or have any ideas?

You need to enable your status to be shown on the web within your skype control panel. This setting is in the privacy area of the Skype application on your computer.

Whats the sound quality like with this Skype? I've not really looked into it but I know users can chat for free or something? I used to use a very high end Neumnn M147 tube condenser microphone through MSN and it sounded pants because of the poor compression rate through MSN, is this the same case with Skype? Is the compression ratio any good?

it's ok but i wouldnt use a high quality mic- just the one built into the laptop is fine.

it does the job given that its free.
no better/worse than a telephone really.

Yeah, I don't think you'd hear the different sound quality compaired to a cheap mic really, I think it's got something to do with the compression ratio.
