Pub version of Deal Or No Deal

Anyone do a pub game version of Deal Or No Deal? If so how does it go? Where do you get the props etc, how easy is it etc etc.

The reason i ask is because my regular pub quiz is wanting to start a seperate games night, with PYCR, Knock-out Giant Jenga, Deal/No Deal etc etc.

Hiya Steve,

A good friend of mine ran "Deal or no deal nights" and I went to one of them.

Basically, he had the numbered boxes on a table, and he only had about 16 rather than 22, and I think the highest amount was £250. He then had a girl to open the boxes as the numbers were called out.

The contestant sat on a stool at a table & was miked up so everyone could hear them.

As for the offers, there was no phone call with the "banker". Instead, I pre-recorded a load of announcements onto a minidisc (each with a different track number) saying "Hello, it's Rob the banker here...and my offer is xxx pounds" This was done with all the possible amounts that were likely to be needed.

When the appropriate boxes had been opened, my friend just whispered the offer to the girl who opened the boxes, and came out with a bit of waffle while she cued up & played the appropriate offer on the mini disc.

There was also a whiteboard on a stand with all the amounts listed, and as each box was opened, my friend crossed that amount off.

Yeh one of the locals does it here. He has made 22 wooden boxes with the Velcro seals. He has the old style telephone that's connected to the pubs land line. Someone phones the pub so it rings. He picks it up and then 'talks' to the banks. Ins reality he is the one making the decision on what offer. He has another person with a whiteboard with the amounts on and they rub them off as they are used.

He also does a kiddies version where there are things like a £300 bike from halfords down to a 1p sweet. Yeh the kids prizes out do the adults prizes. :D

I might well be in the minority here, but I find the game, and the show to be very boring! Isn't it just complete luck? I can't see any strategy to the game.

Anyway, my own opinion to the side - does this work well in a loud pub environment? It seems to me that the TV show relies a lot on tension, and quiet, dramatic pauses from Noel?

I liked it at first, but yeah, its a bit boring.....The Cube on the other hand (if youve seen it) is awesome :)

Just because it's complete luck with no strategy, that doesn't automatically make it boring.

Unless I'm mistaken, the national lottery is complete luck (unless your name is Derren Brown, in which case you can predict the results) and games like bingo are complete luck...but they're still extremely popular.

It worked fine when my friend did it...but he was using a sound system & radio mikes.

Agreed. After all, there's not much to watch, apart from individuals crossing off their numbers or the caller getting his balls out!

I do play your cards right as part of one of my pub quiz nights, and the atmosphere is amazing...with half the pub shouting out higher or lower & cheering...even though the only person who can win anything is the contestant themselves. Everyone else still gets involved & enjoys it though.

Apologies if I've misunderstood what you were saying, but the point I'm making is that everyone can get involved & enjoy it...even though there's only one person who is playing & therefore one person who can win anything.

When I saw my friend doing Deal or no deal, the atmosphere was great & everyone was clearly enjoying it, but a lot of that is obviously down the the host, the way they present it & their personality & sense of humour rather than just the concept of the game itself.

I know a guy who used to do in, in a nightclub in Stafford.

People text a number to apply and then people were picked from that to be in the game.(the box openers)

Then another person was picked from the box openers via a random name application on a PC which was projected onto a projector.

The "Game Board" was then put on the projector screen via a laptop.

He also had Deal or No Deal sounds, such as the phone.

£250 was the top fee.
