View Full Version : Maxtor One Touch NTSF to FAT32 Help!

Hi (Me again)

Having trouble with this hard drive i got, it's a 500gb Maxtor One Touch, Penmare sent me a link before about this subject but i can't get back into it now so i'd thought i'd ask again.

i tried various ways to convert it but no luck so if anybody has any suggestions to convert this drive from ntsf to fat32 i'm all ears. :confused:

If you add the drive to your PC you should be able to format it to anyone of them.

Laos if you get your PC into the bios you can type the letter of your drive and format EG

format d:\

and this formats to fat32

Erm, doubt it. ;) Think you need a program for this. Can't find it at moment.

I have just remembered that you cannot format a drive bigger than 32GB in FAT32. That's why they moved to NTFS.

I don't think so, the internal HD on my Denon HD2500 is 40GB and is formated FAT32 as is my 250GB external hard drive.

I've just finished reading about this, and it's a hot debate, but I believe you can do exactly as you say. There's no limit on size. ( As far as I have read ).

The 32GB limitation is to do with the crappy Windows software rather than a limitation of the file system itself; you'll need one of many bits of free or shareware to bypass the limit.

Or get a Mac... :p

The tools on this site allow larger drives to be formated with the extended fat32 partition that comes pre installed on external harddrives. Very useful program.

Yes you can!

With Maxtor MaxBlast. I've done 3 500GB drives with it & Mark has just done his with it too.

If only he'd phoned me first, instead of asking you bunch of amateurs

Steve, specsavers for you I think, three consecutive posts pre empting your postulation, and you missed them all. :eek:

Penmare, your PC skills are legendary. I fondly remember reading each day of your attempts to coax the Denon to at least say hello to the myriad of hard drives you tried in whatever format. :p :D :D You'll have to improve by leaps and bounds, if you want to be considered an amateur. ;)
