If you were able to get a playout system (not including speakers or amps) that included all that's listed below how much would you pay for it?

I really wouldn't be able to say, because saying "Music Player" or "Duke Box" is like selling a Mixer in a plain white box for £500, you don't know what brand or anything it is.

I'm guessing this is a second hand package from ebay.

The "Security Features" looks interesting though, I'd like to know what that is all about

Some of the items are questionable, Music player for example how many differnt things fall into that grouping? Auto systems are of no intrest to me as I do not create playlists but choose songs at each event based on crowd responce, client requests, and crowd requests.

Not sure I really know what you are getting at? The games etc are of no use as im busy DJ'ing and have no time to play and if they are for the client to play then how would it work. Simple answer i wouldnt touch it with winch up stand. Even a prolight one.

Loooks like the kits that pub chains put together, when opening new venues. If that was the case, all music etc... Would be 100% legal.

Cost wise I wouldn't have a clue, as the ones I've seen are mainly customer driven or from behind the scenes, not from how we present our shows.

Would be interested in the cost though, more from a nosey point of view as my funds are being battered with a pair of CDJ 2000s.

That's a fair sized package. But price for a franchise doesn't just depend on equipment. Size of territory, back-up support and national advertising from the "mothership" are all factors.

As an entrepreneur, I'd expect to be paying somwhere in the region of £25k-£40k for that franchise package providing the parent company provided all of the major advertising and offered me exclusive rights to my regional territory. If it was a well-established brand (and you haven't given any clues to that apart from, maybe, "Smart Play"?) then those figures could easily be doubled.

But, if I've missed the point and it's not a franchise (although everything you've said points that that), then I apologise. If it's just the purchase of a system with the option of support, and the items are totally legal, then your're looking at £5k just for media. I would guess somewhere between £7.5k to £10k wouldn't be out of the question.

Looking at that package, the only things missing seem to be inflatables!

Another thing that came from our "networking" trip was a couple of the bars were using a system that did everything and being a slight geek I investigated it on return.

Not ebay. Out of interest the mixer included is a Voco pro

Games are an extra revenue stream, you can add them into your nights or just do a complete games night. It's all there just up to you how you use it.

Check you out! You're on the right lines. This kit in it's static install form is currently used by Butlins , Pontins and various other well known names.

Not a franchise as such. The mobile package as described comes on a monthly rental package with a 12month min contract. If you keep it for 36 months it then becomes yours at the end.

Support package is top notch they have a courier that depending where you are in the country will pick up yours and deliver a new one on the same day.


Here we go then the big answer:

For a mobile set up it's a rental agreement of £99 per week + vat with 1 months advance rental so to save you doing the maths that's £455.40 per month, annually that comes out to £5,464.80.

Some would say expensive but I'm sure there's others saying actually for what you get that's pretty good value.

for a holiday resort where you got almost a saturday night crowd seven days a week its a great investment however if your only getting a good crowd twice a week you arent going to use the system to its full protential.

The systems did vary from bar to bar though, we were in one bar where it did look like My first dj by fisher price.

Well that Dj was only about 12 so that's probably why he had it like that :D

Agree, as an install for bar you can't go wrong to justify it for mobile work I think you'll struggle but if you market yourself right then the potential is enormous.

Media Theme have been around for years.

When I was at Pontins as a Bluecoat I used this.

We called it the Entertainer as it does everything and anything.

Good product and you get update CD's every month updating quiz questions and music.

However, they did have a tendancy to fail quite regularly. If I remember correctly there is a 24 hour turnaround, where a Technician comes and either fixes or replaces it.

Not so good in a gig situation though.
