Possible Business Name Change.

Ive been thinking about today and i reckon it might be a good time to change the business name.

Ok current business names are Twinspin & Hull Wedding Disco.

now the name Twinspin im definetely thinking of dropping and changing that to my own name (John Brown) of course.

On the other hand im thinking as well.... closing down the Hull wedding disco business. and incorporating both businesses into my own name. My domain name for twinspin is due to expire early next year.

would this be a good idea. Im thinking maybe so. Although it will cost money to rebrand. get new cards printed and that kind of thing.

any idea of any possible names?

I am the sort of person who would keep changing the name, and it could potentially loose you customers, and confuse regular clients perhaps.

Max, I've had two Disco names in thirty five years. Recently, I had a customer who'd used me many years ago, remembered Excalibur, googled it, and found me again.

Im kidda in the same boat and in the process of setting up a second buisness with a different name and seeing how that goes. If it picks up well I'll move the deckstardeluxe in a different direction (am thinking specialist 18th/21st events) and the other company purely for weddings

The reason I always suggest the person's name followed by entertainment rather than discos is because they are then covered if they want to branch out into other areas in the future, such as quiz nights, karaoke, uplighting, equipment hire etc...rather than having to change their business name AGAIN.

I made that mistake, as I was previously called Rob James Discotheques, which was absolutely fine...until I started doing quiz nights!

I've been doing karaoke since the start and my collection goes back even further than that - in fact to the UK dawn of karaoke. The outlay runs in to tens of thousands of £££ and I know I'd never be able to make anywhere near that back if I was to sell it on.

The name needs to be solid white rather than outline so it stands out more

I've been on the domain site i use and i can register www.djjohnbrown.co.uk www.djjohnbrown.com (both for £28.00) and same for both johnbrowndj.co.uk johnbrowndj.com




might change that. in the meantime ive had a go at a more colourful card.

I dont know about other people but I think graphic buisness cards arent that effective as simple text that stands out and tells you right away what you do and how to contact you?

Its not that im branching out into other things Rob. What i intend to do merge both businesses into one.

E.g. Originally i have the name Twinspin but under that name i just do normal functions. For the weddings my dj service is called Hull Wedding Disco.

The plan is to merge both businesses back into one business. But now i want to drop the name of both businesses and do everything under one business. So i thought it sounds a lot more professional using my own name rather than using the name twinspin.

Not all will be lost in terms of bookings because i will be diverting the twinspin mail to a new email address. Contact numbers will remain the same and im even thinking of putting Formerly Twinspin on business cards and adverts just as an indentifier who i previously traded as.

snap !! and in the process of rebranding.
For me it is working very well. I now have a 'wedding disco' name and an 'entertainments' name with bookings going to the relevant section. Has done wonders for me so far, including becoming prefered choice at a very very nice hotel only 3 miles from home ;)

The wedding disco i might keep then. At the moment its just a thought but i will be changing the twinspin name regardless.

John, I thought you said you were tight on cash and work at the moment.

Surely you'd be better off investing in advertising but understand if this is where you are going, a name change would eventually be cheaper (i.e. only advertising one business rather than 2)

back on topic, I think John Brown Entertainments (with or without the 's') works well. I've also thought about renaming but will stick with JAMdisco for the time being as it's primarily what I do, perhaps JAM entertainment - easy to remember.

Completely agree, because John Brown is a simple name that's easy to remember.

Definately without the s though, as there's no such word (I'll educate people about this if it's the last thing I do!)
