Well done on getting on the floor, personally I would love one, but it would be 'step to far' as far the missus would be concerned!

On a slightly related note a good friend of mine is thinking about hiring one for her wedding next year and has seem prices of around £40 per sqm for hire.
Is this realistic and what sort of size floor do you need to make a good impact. Guests would be around the 100-120 mark.

My vote on that goes to video curtains, they're starting to get affordable. the only problem with that is, once they become mainstream the ammount you can get them out for, also drops through the floor, just look at uplighting

3 or 4 times the cost of the mainstream DJ's on here.If I were a Bride(UNLIKELY) i'd make sure I got an experienced DJ who didnt need these nice attatchments to fill the dancefloor.(I once tried some LED KAM Lightsreens and thought they were hideous.....along with a number of my guests).

It all looks a bit cramped to me anyway.Do you get one of those tickets like you used to get at the PO with a number on it that tells you when its your turn to be John Travolta....(that was 35 years ago ....by the way).

If the market is still there in a few years I'll be looking at investing in one.

While your out busting a ball to earn a few beer tokens Paul will be earning three or four times what you would be earning on the same night by just laying down a 3x3 floor.

So do I, and I can't see it going out at £800, but I can see it turning in more money than £2.5K in the bank ever will. If it's looked after, it will still be worth £2K+ this time next year, and if it goes out just twice, at a more reasonable £499, it will have achieved an 8 - 10% ROI plus a reduction in tax payable due to being able to claim the depreciation allowance. I think the relatively small size may lose some potential hires though. Trying something new is always a bit of a gamble, but there's always the floor to sell if it doesn't work out, and the potential loss from that, makes for a cheap bet, there's not much of a downside.

If it's new value is £5k, it should be hired out at at least 10% of that = £500. Plus Paul's time in laying it, cleaning it, general costs of running the business, £7-800 sounds about right to me!

It's worth remembering that for things like this, your competition is bigger event companies and not other DJs! Generally speaking, these will have alot more of an idea of how to price properly, than most DJs seem to have.

That's not meant to be derogatory, it just seems to be the case across our little corner of the industry. If it wasn't, then DJs who've spent £15k+ investing in their business would be charging higher (or at least simillar) prices to a company that's spent £5k on a dance floor, one who's spent £3k on a chocolate fountain and all the other businesses that charge more than we do, for less investment and work!

I too am a southerner living up north having been born and bred in Wimbledon but now living in Chesterfield (which by the way is not a million miles from South Yorkshire ;) ) and would have to disagree slightly on that one.

The plan never was to put it out for £800. By undercutting the nearest supplier I'll get more hires. The thing is the way you market it. Yes, I could send it out on it's own, however to combine it for the Ultimate Wedding disco package will bring more hires.

As previously mentioned with a bit of vision you could use it for allsorts

Size wise I know 3m x 3m isn't massive but the venues around here Hassop Hall , Blackbrook House, Makeney Hall it'll be just fine, anyway who's to say I've not got a cunning plan up my sleeve for some more panels.
