View Full Version : Which projector?

Im in the market for a projector, but havent a clue what im looking for tbh.

Im probably looking to spend a couple of hundred quid and dont mind it being ebay second hand as long as its decent.

So....what do you guys use/recommend?

A nice snug case to keep it in. Those £20 Maplin aluminium-faced briefcases with the foam cutouts work very well.

I just use basic £200-ish VGA projectors like InFocus and they seem to go on forever. Buy new, as the lamp is the most expensive part to replace.

Just make sure its as high a lumen value as you can afford as as short a throw distance. 2500ansi lumens for starters, anything lower it will be too dim if you have any light in the room

The Optoma's seem to be quite popular, around £300

Good enough for most things ...

See Lumens always confuse me because ive been reading through old threads and everyone says 2500 minimum. But weve got some at work that are 800 lumen, and do fine in a fully lit meeting room. :confused:

Hence one of the reasons i posted...and didnt just nick one of works on the quiet:zip: :D

Mine is a Hitachi 3200ansi and it copes very well.

I purchased an Infocus projector, small and compact and the lumens is great. It was cheap and I think it's great!

Oh, and it was around £240.00 I think.

As with disco lighting, it depends on the quality of the optics I guess.

My PJs are 1800 and 2100 and I've never had a problem either - even inside a white marquee on a sunny day.

The vast majority of the time I'm in a darkened room, rear-projecting, and this output is perfectly fine.

You'll also notice that the 'stronger' the light source, the dearer the replacement lamps are. Something to watch ;)
