Im thinking about hiring out a village hall or something similar on a regular friday night for a youth night.

Am thinking using the mobile nightclub rig and having dance and rnb music (depending on crowd). These are the events I enjoy loads but as I wait for the new site to gain some bookings. Now as I love these events Im not looking to make loads of money in fact would be happy to break even at start until it gets going.

Few Issues.

Do I get one person to pay me a set fee as usual and get them to take money off their friends on the door? Like a couple of quid so we get the numbers and also give these kids a great night which otherwise they wouldnt be able to enjoy.

Do I charge on the door? means hiring another member of staff but doing it this way means I could make more money but also lose more.

Where do I stand on security?

Anyone done something similar or have any ideas or suggestions. At the moment its just an idea in my head but Im hoping to go somewhere with this.

As well as security you might want to look into licencing (music).

The rules are different when hosting public events where attendees are charged for entry. It's no longer a "private party" in the eyes of PRS et al. ;)

Yes PRS license anyone know what sort of figure your looking at as its not planning to be just a one off event?

Not sure of the ages to target as of yet but am thinking between 14-17.

Here we go again ;)....no you do not necissarily need CRB clearence. The whole CRB issue has been done to death and twisted beyond all recognition in every media/meting/forum.

CRB was originally intended for those people who end up in a "one to one" situation with vulnerable people (VP's) (because CRB doesnt just cover children, you know)

And to add to it, you may not actually require CRB because you are not dealing with VP's on a daily basis.

To that endthere is now the ISA (Independant Safeguard Authority) who run the VBS (Vetting & Barring Scheme). They work with the CRB, but are intended for those who have occasional dealing with VP's.

Its still a wooly subject as its all finding its feet right now, but thats it in a nutshell

I know a chap who does door work once in a while but not sure on how many bouncers i need for how many people or if they need to be licensed?

I believe they DO need to be licenced, and you need one for every so many people, although I'm not sure what the actual number is.

You'll need to do some reading up on this.

The CRB suggestion wasn't necessarily aimed at the OP but if the OP is employing others even on a contract basis, he'll need to consider CRB. And this new-fangled thing that'll end up being called "CRB Lite" or whatever :cool:

CRB in its full guise was never intended for those who occasionally deal with VP's. Its just with all the hype etc then people started going for it. Theres the standard and enhanced disclosure. Most people would be ok with the standard (enhanced was for one-to-one etc etc) but hype/media has meant that people have enhanced disclosures that they dont need.

I know of organisations that have now even reverted to "Self Disclosure" for very occasional work with VP's...along the lines of "I certify that I have not been convicted...etc etc etc". Cumbria CC seriously looked at this for their volunteer cycle instructors who maybe only work with kids in this guise for 20 hours per year...but decided against it until the details of the ISA are ironed out and we know exactly where we stand.

Be careful when you send your 'original' documents off to get the Licence - the bunch of :Censored: lost my original passport, driving licence and birth certificate when I got my SIA Licence a few years ago. This was when they were brand new and had a backlog of thousands mind you. Then again the main admin centre is in your neck of the woods, best just drop them off personally

I've already got mine, sia door supervisor licence. No ratio for security to punters, but from experience a minimum of 2 is ideal.
