Okay - what in the name is dubstep. I downloaded Le Roux - in for the kill (Screams Lets Get Ravy Remix) after I heard the last 2 seconds of it and Greg James on radio one reading out a load of texts saying how great it was. I though hey I love the original and its got the word Ravy in it so it must be pretty funky.

WHAT UTTER BUM WATER!!!! It was like having fillings done, but via my eyeball. If thats what Dubstep is I really hope I don't have to do any of it.

Okay I sound like my dad. There's no place like early noughties trance, there's no place like early noughties trance, one more time and click heels.

you listened to the whole song right? It takes awhile to get going but I played it at one gig and the whole place was mental. When it gets going in the last minute or so they were going crazy!

I dont play it often mind its a specialist tune really but quite well known at the same time with younger people.

Dubstep is very Marmite.

If you are a fan of sub bass then you might like Dubstep.

I just love the feeling of having my body shaken to bits by the bass but to a point as it can become dangerous but I think were talking 100-130db at 30hz or something. lol

Oh yeah I listened to the whole thing and the last minute does get going a bit, but thats like saying a Lada Riva is really quite pacey once you get to a really steep down hill bit or a cliff. Shame the rest of the time its (insert your own expletive here)

Sorry not for me. I love La Roux by the way really original and cool, great sound, but that remix is gash.

Syncopated half time rhythms at 140 BPM. Okay now I'm intrigued and off to do some more research.

I will park my Screams Let Get Ravy experience and have a dig and see if there are some dark dirty beats hiding in this Dubstep stuff.

I'm always open to new ideas - wish me luck. :luck:

Its always good to know at least the "classics" of each genre because you never know whos going to be at some of your gigs. Thats my thinking anyways

Neil, trust me it's equally pants on a decent system with a stupid amount of subs:tops ratio ;)

But as someone once said, "God is a DJ" therefore as a mere mortal system tech, one's role is to keep said DJs happy....

i.e. to turn their monitors up a little more every time the FOH comps kick in :)

....and by its very name I can tell i will dislike it intensely. And I'm not 30 yet!

I ought to research it and add a few tracks to my library though as you never know what will be asked for

Slightly OT but this thread reminded me of an Eastenders episode from last week (i think) where Ronnie (??) had a DJ in "the club" to try and claw some money together for her fella who was in hospital.....

....he was "playing" some god awful stuff. Not sure whether it was any of this Dubstep crap or not and ended up "overloading the system" and blowing the whole clubs fuse board, consequently everyone booed the DJ and went home. Whatever a "system" is?? Is this even possible to blow up the whole circuitry in a club?!

Wish they would make these soaps more realistic :bang: :p :p

"blow up" = no

trip an MCB or RCBO = yes

Bass heavy music genres can pull high amperages for short bursts (when the bassline drops) and whilst a breaker typically has a degree of tolerance, there is a limit. A VZ5K or Infinite 8 MkII on a 16a breaker is a good example - it's not difficult to pull well over 20a with these size amplifiers.

In non-plc clubs where things often (but not always) tend to be done on a budget, it is not unusual to see "too many" amplifiers shared on individual breakers, therefore it can be quite easy for Dumbstep-DJ-Redlights-In-da-house to take a circuit out. But that shouldn't take the lighting circuits & the tills & chillers out. Although I guess a complete blackout makes better drama.

mos sound of dubstep is a terrible album!

Because....?

Not that I like the music anyway, but always willing to learn.

Are you going to be a dubstep snob and tell me all the tunes are old or something?

MOS don't have a track record of releasing terrible albums.

Dubstep is huge down in bournemouht town and in university / student nights in general. We have a couple of purely dubstep & d n b nights during the week.

Cant say ive been to them as pure dubstep all night just isnt me, but it is extremely popular at the moment with the 18 / 20 somethings.

Dubstep commericial remixes, like the calvin harris, ellie goulding mixes etc are really effective, but some it can be complete rubbish.
If you've got proms up and coming I would definately get some commerical dubstep remixes as its highly likely some 'the lads' will ask for some.

In no particular Order:

Doctor P: Sweetshop
Tc: Wheres My Money (Caspa Remix)
Foreign Beggers: Seven Figure Swagger (BAR9 Remix)
Joy Orbison: Hypf Mngo
Simian Mobile Disco: Cruel Intentions (Joker Remix)
Nick Correlli and Tom Piper: Indisco (BAR9 Remix)
MJ Cole: Sincere (Nero Remix)
La Roux: In For The Kill (Skreams Lets Get Ravey Remix)
Ellie Goulding: Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix)
Magnetic Man: I Need Air (Red Light Remix)

I'm ok with dubstep. However I think it will be one of those fads that is likely to be forgotten about within the next 18 months or so, probably a couple more Katy B's then it will go chavy . . and then gone

Any one remember baseline?

DJJack

Dubstep has been around for a while, I think it's just started to get popular because of Magnetic Man / Katy B and the La Roux - In For The Kill (Skream Lets Get Ravey remix) which I personally don't think is a good example of Dubstep.

I don't think a full night of Dubstep would be particularly entertaining ... if we've got an event like that we usually start off with some Electro / break type stuff and then move into Dubstep and finish off with some Drum and Bass.

That's just the track listing of the generation Dubstep album from July last year - lot's of what I would call 'fillers' on there IMO

I'm sure I've seen some more up to date Dubstep on here but I can't find the thread

Yeah, got that last week as I thought i'd be useful, and only because Moyles was plugging it when he did that 52 hr jobby and was introduced to it when DJing with Kissy-Sell-out.

I've had a look through the latest 'Addicted to Bass' and 'Dubstep 2' compilations and picked a few out, then I couldn't find Wretch 32's unorthodox to download legally yet so just bought the Addicted to bass Album which has it on as well as few others which were "album only' - rotters!
