Reading this article, I think Rob should put his prices up so he can afford the luxury of a pint in his local!!

Is this why all you Home Counties DJs charge such high prices?

Mind you, It's no wonder pubs are closing when they're charging sums like that.

I can't remember the last time I paid under £3 for a pint.

About £2.80 (ish) here but my local does some strange ciders coming in at 7.5% +...so that takes it to £3.00. :D

Surrey is the stockbroker belt, the people can afford to pay that much!

Nottingham's suposed to be one of the cheapest regions, yet I only live 12 miles away, and it around £2.90 - £3.00 around here, even in the lower end pubs. No wonder so many are closing, I can buy 4 cans in Morrisons for less

I mean, take a litre of unleaded. What is it now? About £1.09?

So that's (1.09/1.75975326) = a shade under 62 pence per pint.

For that, the oil company has to go exploring some pretty hostile environments complying with all manner of regulations and laws, drill the stuff out (carefully), transport it to land, expend huge amounts of energy cracking it down into various compounds, then transport these again (carefully) to specialist (expensive) distribution points where it can be retailed. 70% of what they sell it for goes straight to the government. So per pint sold that's about 19 pence to share around those involved.

Compare this with the brewery who simply throws a few bits of grass in a bucket of water and waits a few weeks, transports it (cheaply) to (cheap) distribution points for retail. Depending on strength, between 40 and 60% of what they sell it for goes to the government. So on a £2.50 5% ABV pint, there's £1.25 to share around those involved.

Can I just say how refreshing it is to hear someone whos done their research!

Amount of times a day I have to have these convesations with customers its a nightmare.

Can I just also point out there is alot of new developments coming with pump fuels and this costs money too. ;)

It's £1.60 a pint in the bar in our office, but I suppose we do make the stuff so you'd expect it to be cheap.

If you get the citi mastercard from shell and use it with the drivers club card you get more points Tom. :D

Keep buying vpower and they upgrade you to the vpower drivers club and you earn even more.

I'll get it next time your in a garage. They should be always asking if you got a card and offering you one if you dont.
