I hate all this management-speak: but I'm not going to salami slice at my profit thresholds by ignoring low hanging fruit, so I need to matrix manage my protocols by Cloning and ReBooting according to networked commonalities.
See what I mean? UTTER UTTER B.S. used to often say something that's common sense....oh I mean a "commonly held paradigm". :bang:
I digress.
"Working Smarter" seems to be the popular one being bandied around alot lately, yet has been used for ages by any business with an idota of "commonly held paradigms" :p They used to call it efficiencies savings. Before that it was cutting overheads. Before that it was called looking after the pennies so the pounds looked after themselves.
SO : what ways of "working smarter" have YOU adopted to make life easier for youself (aka "re-basing your work-life balance") or better for your business (making profits larger)?
Some examples I think where I have worked smarter (more smartly?) are:
Getting my website up and running. Has paid for itself 100 times over.
Moving to VDJ (in process) - will save time setting up/packing down, and space in the van. Also having a ProDub short-circuits the whole "well I don't need one anyway" conversation with vastly misinformed clients & hoteliers.
Invested in all-LED lighting. Sacrificed gobos, but saved space, time, cost of bulbs, enabled easier & neater set-up. Clients don't notice lights are less varied, but they do notice the stand is neat now.
Streamlined the range of options/packages I offer - this has maximised profits when I go out or reduced work required for lower-profit shows.
Developed good relationships with quality local DJs to enable co-operative shows. (I sing, they DJ, makes life easier for me and gets them gigs they would not have had otherwise, which is in turn reciprocated. I also get to see more of my family.)
Spent time building a network of fellow Wedding Singers who likewise share client details, opening up markets that google might not have!
Er...that's it for now.
Over to you guys: bring on the trumpets.
