Using Gigaport Hd With Pcdj Fx

I have just received my new external gigaport hd soundcard today after deciding to return the maya44 usb earlier this week when a member of the forum said he was having the same setup problem as me.

I am using PCDJ FX and want to setup the gigaport hd on my laptop using channels 1+2 on my mixer. I have tried all kinds of combinations this afternoon to get the soundcard working so sound comes from both channels on the mixer (and from bothe players in PCDJ FX). I just stuck the gigaport into the laptop and drivers configured automatically, I chose the gigaport as the soundcard from the windows sound settings and changed the cfg settings in PCDJ FX for player 1 channels 1+2 (with audio leads going into 1+2 on the gigaport) and for player 2 channels 3+4 (with audio leads going into 3+4 on the gigaport). This played sound through channel 1 on the player 1 but player 2 just froze and would not play at all through PCDJ FX. This is what was happening with the maya44 usb I had earlier in the week.

After trying endless combinations with the above settings I decided to install the gigaport drivers for Windows vista (32bit) and now in my sound card settings in windows and in PCDJ FX I now have options to choose Gigaport HD ch1+2, Gigaport HD ch3+4, 5+6, 7+8 and then Gigaport HD multi8. I have still got audio leads going from channel 1 on the mixer into outs 1+2 on the gigaport and audio leads going from channel 2 on the mixer into 3+4 on the gigaport. I have tried all kinds of combinations with these but the closest I have come to playing sound on the 2 players in PCDJ FX simultaneously is when 2 songs were playing through channel 2 on the mixer (3+4 on the gigaport) at the same time. There was nothing happening on channel 1 of the mixer.

I am seriously frustrated that I cannot get this setup with my second type of soundcard in a week. Surely the gigaport hd soundcard can work with PCDJ FX. I have tried searching the PCDJ forum, on google and read the manual – I have been everywhere! I really need to get this backup system working - can anyone help as it would be hugely appreciated?

Good news today. I have finally managed to setup the gigaport hd USB soundcard with PCDJ FX on my backup laptop after trying allsorts of settings combinations. It all seems so simple now! The sound quality is great and I am extremely pleased. I suppose the saying "if at first you don't succeed..." comes to mind.

If the PCDJ team can get my 00DJ repaired this week I should be back on track just in time for a busy few months leading up to xmas. Just thought I would share my joy on this as it has taken me a week of head scratching and 2 different souncards to get to this point. I am hapy now that I will be able perform at events with the confidence that I have a reliable backup system to hand.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to contribute anything to this thread, but I've had very limited success with USB sound card myself (I tried a Hercules MKII and a Behringer BCD3000 and couldn't get either working reliably with VDJ under WinXP). In my case I believe the problem came down to something else which had been installed on the laptop at some point and was interfering with the USB port drivers (I suspect either a driver for a Sony Ericsson phone or for a webcam - both of which refused to properly uninstall). My only option in the end was to reload XP and because my laptop has a ton of software on it, I decided in the end that it would be easier/cheaper to move to a dedicated Hard drive controller (Cortex) than buy another laptop for the purpose.

Glad to hear you got this sorted out anyway - what was the problem in the end?

That is strange. I have had no problems whatsoever with PCDJ FX and I use 2 sound cards ok which arent even the same make as each other. Did you make sure you had the lastest pcdj fx updates installed ? I think they improved soundcard connectivity and fixed some bugs in the later updates.

Thanks Julian and Larry for your comments. In ref to Julian I thought it may have been an issue with connectivity but it turned out to be my misunderstanding of the settings for soundcard in windows control panel and then the settings in PCDJ. Once I installed the Vista drivers I had more options to choose for soundcards and it was just choosing the correct combination of these and choosing the right channels. Now I have sorted the problem, just by looking at the settings it all makes sense!

In ref to Larry I think I could well try updating the PCDJ FX software on my home backup laptop - but I do not allow my main playout system (00dj) access to the internet as to protect it from viruses etc. Not sure which soundcards you use with PCDJ FX I tried the maya44 usb last week but with no joy I think the gigaport is probably the best choice as it has more analog outputs.

Just had a call from the PCDJ team and they said they have found nothing wrong with the 00dj I sent in for repair. I informed them the monitor had been flickering intermittently but not every time used it. They are sending it back by courier for tomorrow after they have given it a service. I'm hoping that their service may have cured the problem but at least I got a backup system to turn too if it hasn’t worked.
