What led par cans do you use?

Ie is it 36,54,64

I am thinking about useing them for uplighting.

What are the best buys to go for?

Thomman Par 56's here - great for uplighting and if they get kicked about / dropped / wet etc it isnt a massive problem as they are only £30 each!!!

Me included.

I use 8 of them on a pre-wired bar. They are plenty bright enough for the gigs I do & I don't offer uplighting, so there would be little point in getting anything larger.

There were some of these on display at BPM yesterday and to be honest I wasn't that impressed with them.

If you are looking towards them they are fairly bright, but from the DJ's point of view, they don't have a long 'throw' at all.

I use colourbursts (output of a 36 if im right). They are cheap units, that will run master/slave or can use full dmx...or spend 60 quid and get the lil mix controller.

Ive also got 2 ledj par56 which i occasionally use behind the disco

That's the ones I use for uplighting, only just started with them but so far have had great comments about them especially from the venues

How do you control them? DMX? Master/Slave? Hand Controller?

At the moment stand alone using the dip switches, more than enough colours available. I may eventually go over to DMX see how it goes for now.

They can either be used with a controller or stand alone, they won't do master slave.

Just noticed that CPC are doing some cheap LED Par's at the moment. Very similar to the thomann units but they do have the master/slave feature and only a few quid extra.

I use 64....they have been a great buy. I brought mine from DJ kit and they cost around £140 for two.

There isn't that much information about them which is worrying. Does anyone know if they can strobe for example?

I use the Visio 56s, there bright enough to manage most jobs, yet offer the good features of link up pattens and the ever famous CA8 control ability...

Although there are the new flatpack styles (as in the KAM LED Bar) now available for single purchase... I wonder how good they are! They are certainly look good on Mike @ Phase ones videos!

I made up my mind a while back that I was going to get the Visio LED par64 cans. I almost bought them too.....until I came across the Acme LED par panel sets.

4 per pack and comes with one ca8 controller per pack. Phase one also includes the male to female IEC power cables in the pack too, so you can daisy chain the power from one unit to the next. These units also don't need stands for floor mounting them, they can lie directly on the floor. The ca8's work great with them, but I also went for the LED commander controller, so I could mix any colour I wanted.

I'm happy with the purchase.

The main ones were that you can daisy chain the power via the iec in and out on each unit, so I was able to use them out of the box without having to cut off plugs and add iec's - they also don't need floor mounting stands (although these can be added to give them some height to make them more prominent and less likely to be stood on). The other main one was how compact and portable they were. Each pack comes with it's own sturdy bag that holds 4 units and all cabling. As the units are so slimline they take up virtually no room in the van. The fact that they work with the visio controller was also a plus.

Can see why you went for them, even just as a space-saving tactic. I'd be a little concerned just leaving them flat, I'd have thought you'd have made / bought some bases for them? Probably a little pricey for what they are, I'm looking at picking up a load of these -

The wooden ones we made were varnished but I'd be happy with something more robust, which we could send away once every year or so to have stripped and powder-coated.

The Lil Mix is a great little controller, but it is NOT a DMX desk.

It really is a plug and play unit, and is simple to use (all lighting units dipswitches with 1 & 10 on). It will not allow you to single out individual units to change the colour though.
