My question is simple..

You have a website..eg. www.leedsdiscos.com

but would like to buy www.leedsweddings.com as a domain and add it to the website...www.leedsdiscos.com

does any one do this or is it better seo wise to have a new site...

So does it work well having domains added to you main site...or new site..???

God I hope someone knows what I mean...

I've read that Google will only pick up on one of the domains and I don't know how you'd control which one it does. However, I have several domains on my various sites and quite a few of them are listed seperatley on google. For example, led-uplighting.co.uk and colourmywedding.co.uk both appear seperatley even though they're the same site!

I do. (only on here, not in real life :p )

Funnily enough, Richie was talking to me about this and he said it is better to keep one domain to one website. He will explain why later I'm sure. (Don't ask me to!)

I think i know where your coming from.
I have a couple of domains set up for different areas of work in which I do.
For example i am a Scout Leader and do a lot of Scouting Events so I brought www.scoutingevents.co.uk and run all Scouting based things through it, well I did I am sorting a new website out at the moment for it.

Is this what you mean? I do the same with an event i organise www.scarefest.org both have different websites.

I have several other domains which just redirect to a single website for a 4x4 related thing I am involved with.

I guess its all down to personal tase/preference.

If both domains are for the same thing then why not just redirect one to the other? then you only have one website to maintain!

I have a reseller hosting package with about 30 different domains hanging off of it, resolving to about 20 or so different web sites. Most of these are mine, a few are for paying customers.

If you're going to go down the multiple website route, you'll probably find this is a much cheaper option than having lots of individual hosting packages.

No, it's a (poor) example of a redirect using a meta refresh.

"Mapping" other domain names to a single site is sometimes called domain parking (in fact, if you use cPanel that's exactly what it is). Every domain will go to the same site but the address bar will keep the domain that was used to request it. For example: -

www.my-parked-domain.com/equipment.html

will show the page at

www.my-primary-domain.com/equipment.html

but the address bar will still show

www.my-parked-domain.com/equipment.html

So, it would look like an identical site (unless you do some clever stuff to show different content depending on what the domain in the request is). You also run the risk of Google et al penalising you for duplicate content. Or you may (as Danno has) get listed for each of your domains. But be careful.

You can park domains but then force them all to use your primary domain by putting the following code in an .htaccess file in the root of your site (if on an Apache (http://httpd.apache.org/) server with mod_rewrite (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_rewrite.html) enabled - should be): -

# Direct all traffic to www.primary-domain.com
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.primary-domain.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.primary-domain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

What this basically means is - if the request isn't for www.primary-domain.com, then re-write it so it is. This also stops search engines crawling the non-www version (http://primary-domain.com) of your site, although this can be set in Google Webmaster Tools (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/) under "preferred domain".

All clear? ;)

P.S. I always advise clients to get both the .co.uk and .com versions of domains.

It looks (to me) like www.rowleysdiscos.co.uk is parked on www.rowleysmobileentertainment.co.uk (or vice-versa), but I don't know about the other two as they are doing a meta redirect...and the "click here if website does not load" link doesn't work.

i wouldnt opt for the reseller packages, take alook at VPS packages far better for your money, also you have a guaranteed slot on the server, alot of master resellers overload servers, its a huge problem in the hosting industry, vectis i would seriously upgrade your package to be honest my friend.
