Hello and welcome. Please take the time to introduce yourself in the Newbies section. I'm sure some of those who specialise in this area will be along to help soon. If not we'll prod a few folk for a response. ;)

I do love Halloween. I've got a similar gig and have been coming up with idea's for weeks (yes i'm that sad):D

There are a good number of kid friendly Halloween tunes out there to use
For example:

Bobby (Boris) Pickett & The Crypt Kickers - Monster Mash
Ray Parker Jnr - Ghostbusters
Automatic - Monster
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Cartoons - Witch Doctor
Rocky Horror Picture Show - The Time Warp
Can't remember artist but Rik 'n' Nik did do a cover - The Purple People Eatter

And for the games (without giving away to many of my idea's:cool:)

The Mummy Game
Best Dressed Competition

And try adapting the traditional children's games with a Halloween theme

Most important thing is to have fun, give out plenty of prizes and intertact with the children and adults.

Hope this helps:)

Sheb Wooley-Purple People Eater. Must get a copy of that. (Edit: It's on 7digital)
See Giggles, I told you somebody who knew would come along. If nobody else does soon, we'll give Mayhem a prod, and ask him. He's the oracle in these things.

Ok, I'll try out a few of my idea's on here and see what you think:)

Game 1: Ghost Catcher (Formally known as Musical Statues:cool:)

Very simple game, there for is suitable for younger children. While the music is playing everyone must dance around the room and when it stops they just stop in a ghostly/spooky/scary statue position. Anybody caught moving will be out of the game.

What do you think???

Why would you PM for? This forum is for sharing ideas generally.

Oh, and she hasn't been back since she posted the original thread, so I doubt you'll get an answer anyway.

I don't feel ALL of the forum members totally embrace the Kids Party side of the business.Whilst I am not Mr.Mayhem it is 30% of my business and I have a large following.....

I started a thread when I first joined to encourage general ideas for childrens parties....the response was at the best tepid and at the worst very dissapointing.

Never mind....the absent giggles has suffered the same fate.....

I'm not going to spend hours posting ideas if nobody else is going to play....its my ball and i'm going home.

Would others here consider it cheap and nasty to do kidz parties....its a great add on to my business??I'm even doing the party bags for them now at a £1.00 a time!!

Perhaps there are people who don't have ideas and will bow down to God like people like you when it comes to these matters? :p

I'm not asking for that Darren.

I use some of the old stuff and some stuff that I have dreamt up or adapted that is pretty original.

New ideas for Kidz Parties are priceless....i'm not trading them for nowt!!

Maybe some of the DJ's on here are the ones I get complaints about from the parents??

Turned up with a fantastic light show....charged me £150.00 for two hours and then just threw a few songs out of his laptop.....You and your partner are fanatastic value in comparisom.

Time to dig out the best practise manual :run:

I take alot of pride and put alot of time and effort into my children's parties thats why i don't want to give away all of my idea's.

I think it's better to have some of your own idea's than just to use everyone else's. At least i can say my shows are unique and not the same as alot of other children's entertainers.

Unfortunately I can sympathise, new ideas for Kids parties are so hard to find as most of them have been doing the rounds for some time now and with kids you need to keep coming up with new stuff, especially if you're in front of the same kids 2/3 times a year.

I was exchanging emails with a potential client on and off for a week or so at the beginning of this month and she started asking "but how do I know you're any good?" kind of questions. I pointed out that I do all of the local schools from 5-11yrs old (she was after a kids entertainer for 10-11yr olds) and she asked what kind of games I'd play with them. I replied giving her some basic details, but not giving away too much, and then heard nothing back. I chased her a week ago to see what had happened and she's had the front to tell me that they're doing the party themselves now using the ideas that I emailed her!!

Nope, time to decide whether you are a kids entertainer or not. There is a big difference between someone like Mr Mayhem and a DJ who plays a few party dances. There is a big difference.

Perhaps the parents complaining booked a kids disco and not a kids entertainer?

I make a point of asking my customers what they expect to get from a "Kids Disco" as you're right, people have very different perceptions of what a "Disco" is. Some think they're hiring a Red Coat and others think they're hiring Pete Tong (and that it'll keep 50+ 4yr olds entertained for 2hrs? ).

I normally run the show somewhere in the middle, bit of music to kick off, a few party dances to engage them and get them moving and then a few games followed by a break with background music, a few more games and a few more dances to close, but I know others who will be engaged with the kids from the word go right through to the end and others who might play the Cha cha slide and the Macarena, but that's about their limit.

It's quite a wide market.

The reason I posted what I did, is because I get a lot of enquiries asking for a kids disco and people have different perception of what that should be, so I make sure they know what they want and what they would be getting.

I sometimes do kids parties/discos, and I always stress I'm not a Children's entertainer. That's a whole different ballgame, and I take my hat off to those who specialise in it. Anyone who books me for such a gig knows exactly what they're getting beforehand. ;)

I'm not quite sure how this is meant to be read. I would be happy to share all of my idea's on here if everyone else done the same but i know this is not going to happen.

I'm quite happy to say I am a DJ and a Children's Entertainer.

All those years in the business you must have something original to offer....maybe from one of your Football Presentation nights???

I also do a lot of kids party but think the concept of posting all your ideas, be it on a forum or your own website, is difficult.

It's a bit like disclosing your trade secrets.

I've also had parents who've asked for full details (can you send me an email with a full run down and timetable) of what you do, they then attempt to run the party using an ipod themselves.

I interact as much as i can with the kids doing the dances with them, playing the games and sorting out the competitions. I have very good feedback.

My worry is that the local DJ's who already go out for peanuts for weddings etc. will try to use the ideas and run at their own cheap rates.

I'd only started doing kids parties because i took my son to a disco party and it was terrible so thought i can do better than that, and did!

It's a bit like posting set list from good nights, some dj's will post, most won't. The same with prices, some will disclose what they are really charging.

I must admit it does bug me when DJ's come onto forums saying they've got a booking for a kids party this weekend and what should they do?
If you want to do kids parties, do the research and work out a plan before you take the booking. Do they do the same for weddings etc.?

Couple of pieces of advice -

Make sure you aim the party at the relevant age range. 12yrs olds aren't going to want to do the same sort of things as 4yr olds.

Don't even think about just playing music, unless specifically requested by the parents/party person and even then, be prepared to put in a few games or competitions. 10yr olds tend to think they are 16 and all their friends will all just dance to the latest club tunes, but reality tends to be very different!!

I don't mind posting some general advice, but specifics, i don't know...

Steve.

Why can't I be a midfield dynamo.....a bit of everything.Broaden my market to increase my turnover.

I am a Karaoke Host... Wedding and Party DJ... Childrens Entertainer or DJ...Compere.....Radio DJ....In fact anything that requires a bit of charisma and music knowledge and microphone presence....whats wrong with that!!

No bowing or references to God please!! Its what I do.

I wouldn't bow to you if you were a good plasterer.... I might admire your work though:D

OK, people don't want to share on here, so I am closing this thread and will think seriously about whether we have a part of the forum dedicated to this subject.

Everyone else on this forum shares and networks in the other parts, so what makes this so special?

I especially don't appreciate the insinuation from other members that I don't help others out. I take that as a personal insult and if members wish to make a point, they can PM me and not try and flame me on the forum.
