Just been to setup at the time agreed with the client, and they'd left around 3ft x 3ft space for me.. apparently they thought I could setup there and then move everything out a bit after the meal finished and they moved a couple of the tables out.

They have a singer for the meal, and last table is cleared at 10.15pm so I've left my gear in the stock cupboard and have come home for a curry! (With the clients blessing of course)

There's no seperate room for guests to go to whilst I setup either, which I hate. It's going to be well past 11 by the time I start, I have 4 hours of request, and Karaoke to fit in, before 1am

I know I should have checked with the venue in advance - but I've been to this place before, and they usually have a marquee attached where people eat and then they come into the main room. However, they're now building an extension on the land where the marquee was and only have the one room.

I hate having to set up in front of the clients guests, it puts you under pressure for everything to go fine without anything going wrong,

Hope all goes ok, all the best.

Tell me about it, I've built a new rack (and had to buy a TV too since the Composite->VGA convertor I bought last week on eBay still hasn't shown up :Censored: ) for the Karaoke tonight, although I've tested it all in my lockup, there's still always those first gig butterflies!

I'm stood here at a 21st for ages till the meal finishes. Downloading a few tracks on the venue's WiFi at five times the speed I get at home. The downside of living in the wilderness, I guess. :D

I think he's past the spice tray, and into the chicken vindaloo.

Just back from the easiest night ever. Set up for 8:30pm. Free meal and drinks from the Casino. Did one game of Deal or Don't deal at 9:30pm (like deal or no deal with different name for license reasons). Kev sang for half an hour and then finished for 11:00pm. Got the wives some more free drinks. Packed down and came home.

Well, I got back for about 9.55 and they were just on deserts. So, they moved the one table so I could start setting up whilst people finished eating - kicked off about 10.45 in the end, and pretty much rammed floor all night until 1. Knew quite alot of the guests there - a few that either live in my village, or used to (it's that small that everyone knows everyone)

Didn't get round to Karaoke in the end - although birthday girl did a song just after the official finish time and then all the guys sang Boh Rap for a proper finish!

It's one of them I think, get the music on and then sort lighting out after that if you are setting up in front of people.

I just used one Wizzard and two 1W LED pars behind me.. the venue had two cheapo moonflowers that they stuck on too. Got this email on Saturday though..

Hi Daniel
Thanks so much for last night. You did a brilliant job and kept everyone dancing the whole time.
Sorry if you felt you had gone to a lot of trouble for nothing with the karaoke. Everything was going so well though....I just didn't want to break the mood, and it was still fun to have a bit at the end of the night - shame we all had no voices by that point!

Cheers

Laura
