Hello All!

Was in the studio yesterday filming some drum videos - so here's the first one!

Excellent. I bet your neighbours love the Needham's????? Some people have Rock Band at home you have to take it to the next level!! Brilliant.

I will get my coat!:D I've seen what you did there now. Sorry mate went straight over my head. I am in the kitchen at the moment and I can't multitask. That's what Mrs J tell me anyway!!!!:Censored:

Darren - Thanks mate!

Tony - Thanks for the comment - it is a little hard to find the urge to 'flow' when not infront of an audience. Drumming is completely different when in front of a crowd, so I'm alot less 'rigid' when gigging! Thanks though. (waits for the comments that turn what I said into innuendos!) Also - had some issues with recording, so wasn't in the best frame of mind.

Just being honest here so please don't take offence. :)

I thought the playing was a little sloppy, the kick drum sounded horrible, cardboard box comes to mind, and the guitar sounded too metal like for the song.

I know you can play drums and you play them well, just those few things stood out too me.


Keep up the great work though. :approve:


EDIT, if you want bass for anything, just give us a message on msn, can send it over on a cubase file. MDD band. lol.

Yes, it was sloppy - I know I can do a million times better and will do next time I'm back in the studio (as previously explained in this thread).

Kick has that sound so it cuts through the mix as the song we played to is the commercial track, not a backing track without guitar & drums - so that's the reason for the kick sound.

The video wasn't supposed to be of quality to amaze people interested in sound - purely just cause I like making drum videos - so not too fussed with the guitar sound for this vid. Obviously - If me and Joe recorded an entire song without a backing track then of course, the guitar sound would have been completely different and would have suited the song better.

If you are after a metal style click sound on the bass drum, trying to remember here from collage, with a standard bass drum mic you want it quite close to the bass drum head where the beaters hit, place some kind used credit card or something like that for each beater to hit. As for EQ, you want treble between 12k and 15k and I if I remember you need to have a play with some sweep EQ around the 3k to 8k. That should give you a nice click to cut through the mix. :)

Just bass the bass in on the EQ to give it a bit more depth. :)

Yeah I knew that already as I work in a recording studio most weekends and do live sound a fair bit aswell.

As said before, the mix isn't done to sound like a commercial track - it's so other drummers can hear each part of the kit properly, of which has been achieved.
