If you could only use either:

1. a single centrepiece light, or
2. a matching pair of lights

what would they be?

(and I mean standard mobile disco type lighting.... not dream-world wish-list ones )

In my opinion this would depend on the size of the room.

Last week I did a very very small room and I only used an Impossibled and 2x Par Cans for a Wedding.

2 martin acrobats. With the controller they can do a bit of all speeds. and fill a room nicely.

One EFX500 or two EFX500s

Failing that, a pair of Twister 4 HPs.

You'd need more than one type of truss if you used it often enough :sj:

Another vote here for Twister 4hp's

I think the Martin EFx 500, 600 or Wizard would have it depending on budget.

Not got a lot to spend - two Abstract Monster moons. Retro, but would fill a room no worries.

Often play in small rooms and use only 2 or maybe 3 lights - and have a selection to choose from.

2 x soundlab vastos (been known to use just these)
2 x kam hex a flowers (been known to use just these)
2 x datamoons (been known to use just these)

1 x star cluster
1 x cam derby 2

Is this question referring to lights that we already have?
If so, 2 x Mystic LED's linked togeather.

My knowledge of lights isn't great, but if I could only use one pair, I think it would be a pair of Impossibleds.

1. Impossibled (for large coverage of light)
2. Pair of iMove 250s

One Acme Matrix ( :) - review coming) and something to fill the walls - couple of Dynarocks or iMove 5's.

Mine would be a pair of ImpossibLED's often use this combination when providing Children's Entertainment when you don't need loads of lights.

In my opinion this would depend on the size of the room.

Last week I did a very very small room and I only used an Impossibled and 2x Par Cans for a Wedding.

Same here, I only needed to use an Impossibled and 2 cans at the Gig I did last Sat, they didn't want disco lighting as such and it wasn't a big room!

I suppose it depends on the size of the room as to what I'd use.

As others have mentioned, Martin Wizard Extremes for me.

One Acme Matrix ( :) - review coming)

Be interesting to read that. Not impressed with it at all. guess if you've got it rigged 4 metres above the dancefloor it'll give a nice effect, but at normal events, I wouldn't be able to get it high enough.

Single ImpossibLed or a pair of Datamoons....all would HAVE to be under DMX control so they can be used for warm-up, slow & 1st dances. :)

I always use a wizard extreme for our smaller venues - works wonders and still impresses clients
