I thought she did ok, as they said on the night, thats alot of pressure to sit there an make a judgement on someones ability to sing then go out and try and be better......!!

not sure about whitney though. is she on something.........

Visually I thought it was a good performance, especially with all the backing singers/dancers too.

I understand she sang the first verse live & mimed all the rest, in which case why did Dermot say she'd be singing live? It's a bit like announcing a TV show is live, when only the first few minutes is. Very misleading indeed.

I think it DID matter that she mimed most of the song (assuming that was the case). If the contestants manage to sing live each week when they have little or no experience, I don't see why she can't do the same when she has PLENTY of experience, both from her Girls Aloud auditions & all her live shows with the band since then.

My own opinion of the song is that it's a poor choice to launch her solo career, being very weak indeed. I only saw the show a few hours ago, and I can't remember any of the song at all.

I really don't like reality TV whichever way you cut it...I think the only one i've got time for is 'Come Dine With Me' and that's only because of the comentary....

Anyway back to the question - I like Cheryl Cole but she is in your face a bit much recently...

I was forced to sit through the first half hour of the X factor last night by the missus so caught the the act - my god how awful was she - if she was miming the backing tape was out of key when she mimed the low notes - I think it was a mixture - she was singing live but the backing track had plenty of vocals on it.
How Simon Cowell kept a straight face when he said it was 'good' or 'amazing' (or whatever word he used to describe the performance) I don't know.
Even her dancing was sub-standard lol

Then Simon Cowell came on and said how fab she is and that she would be number one next week....

Unfortunately, he's probably right.

Her performance was watched by close to 15 million people.

It only needs 1% of those to buy the single for it to make number one.

At least she didn't look like a drag act like Whitney Houston did. I think she did really well, fair play to the little geordie lass I say (and man is she hot !)

Gotta agree with all of that. There's no way anyone can do such an energetic routine and be able to sing pitch perfect. You just wouldn't physically have the breath.

If you listen to the radio, watch the television & use your computer, that seems to be the general consensus of opinion.

The original plan was for her to mime to the whole song, but when word got out there was understandable controversy.

She couldn't cope with singing the whole song live, so it was decided she'd just sing the first bit live & then use a pre-recorded vocal for the rest of her performance.

I didn't see it, but she is a popular girl, seems nice enough, and will probably bag a number one out of it.

Besides, the likes of Simon Cowell are always the real winners, they know how to milk the pop market.

yeah when i watched it I thought it sounded a bit weird,

couldnt quite work out what was going on,,

i just thought it was a full vocal backing track but she sang the odd bit over it,,

thing to remember is that,, there was no way she was ever gonna sing it live,,

think about it,, this is her first solo song, she's got this amazing oppunity to launch it to an incredible amount of people..

as if she and the record company bosses are gonna risk her *removed it up.

ps,, its a nice song,

and i still like Whitney, her song is good,

and its good having her on tv,, sends out a warning to kids,,

ie, dont mess with drugs...

I quite like the song too, I have to say i saw the performance and thought she sung live? maybe not. Vocally its not a powerful belter of a song so its almost like she is talking it except for the chorus where it lifts a bit.

she has come out of a drug induced stupour that she has been in since the 90's and made some more tosh that is about as good as watching her sing tosh whilst Kevin Costner mills about looking wooden.

In the 80's she was okay though.
