Hello Guys,
I am looking at getting 4 Martin SCX 500 Flat Mirror Scanners for my new deckstand rig but I am thinking if they will be bright enough to put on a truss rig if I need to for the bigger venue.
What do you think to this guys? Shall I go for something different? But I want small and compact and a martin product really.
Cheers,
Tom
Same output as my Martin MX4's, which take a 150 watt bulb, but never seen these SCX in action.
The MX4's are good and bright and used in many nightclub settings and I find mine give good brightness on truss in larger venues (as long as supported by other fixtures). As I say the SCX is the same output and manufacturer, but I have not seen them in action.

They're nothing like a MX4, the MX4's are fitted with discharge lamps and are much brighter than the SCX's, which use a 150w halogen lamp. I'm a big fan of Martin lights, but if you're planning on working in large venues, choose something else.

All depends what you mean by that really

That will teach me to just look at the wattage and not the lamp type.
Get some MX4's - you can pick them up off ebay at £150 a unit from time to time. All mine are ex club install and are in great condition and cost me £590 for the 4. They were a £500 per fixture light new.

Venue size is always going to be subjective, personally I categorize a small venue as around 200 capacity, a medium venue at around 400 capacity, and a large one at 500 and above, you of course, may have different criteria, I don't think there is a definative answer to this.

AllStarEventsVisual,
Every week we seem to get a new thread from you stating you're looking to buy something or other. Have you actually ever bought any of the items you've posted about or are we all just wasting our time replying?
Excuse my cynicism.

I agree totally and 100 and under for me would be small and over 250 large, I've used the SCX 500's in bigger venues and imo they coped well. Just thought I'd share as I do use the lights the OP was asking about :)

If you want to know if they're bright enough, I would suggest going to a DJ shop to see them, or one of the many shows that takes place throughout the year.

I'm glad you did post. I had the feeling that people were wasting their time with replies, and your post just reinforces what I already thought.

I am not sure if the martin lights are the same, but with my abstract lights the manual says the light from the discharge bulbs is more yellow and not as bright if you invert the fixtures

Im glad its been brought up because I had the same feeling for a long time yet I see no website listed? How on earth do you get gigs that require these sort of fixtures???
Notice Max is back too? The MDD answer to the chuckle brothers lol

I have no web site - yet it is being built - but still doing good work through contacts, word of mouth and agency work (not so good) and I have some nice Martin fixtures.
However, it would appear that OP has been here before from the way the thread has gone.

Wouldn't the Lightshow start to look boring after a while though CJ,
If it's all just gobo's on the floor, nothing else.
I'll tell you something, and probably loads of You will agree with this.
2 X Acme Impossibleds fill a room / dancefloor
Some say LED aren't as bright, but items like the revo 3 / Matrix etc are a hell lot brighter than the average 250w Scanner!

There is a colour wheel aswell as a gobo wheel and I will program them so it isn't just gobos moving around the room.
For my deckstand rig I am running - 4x SCX 500s, 1 EFX 500 and 2 Revo 3s and 2 mega bar leds.

Allstar,
Please take my advice. Hold off posting threads like this till you are actually ready to buy the items, that way there will be less people inclined to disbelieve you - myself included.
That said, let's just leave it there. The last thing we need on the forum is a witch hunt.
