Well I'm looking for a good DJ agency in Birmingham

as i spoke to this DJ before and he told me he gets load of work from a agency and never advertised and he was getting paid good ...

He was a little poor and had to tell him quite a frew song to play So if he is getting work i might be able to fill in some blanks with a agency ..

My recollection of Brum is that Jamie told us there was a price war going on--

I would check this guys definition of getting paid good....might be different from yours;)

There's none I'd touch in Birmingham to be honest. Most of the big agencys would cover UK wide anyway, so don't limit yourself to just looking for Birmingham based ones.

Its seems birmingham and area surrounding have an age old myth about dj's, that they work for next to nowt.

And also being one of the highest unemployement areas in the UK so the press say it seems that to go out dj'ing for little money seems a good way to get a bit of money in your pocket.

in other words loads of Cowboys out there.

Probably the same else where in the U.K too.

I'd say that only applies if your aiming at pub gigs, or looking for cheap work.

I deal every day with DJs from the area, who go out for good money. The same as Danno, James H and myself do to.

Well my bookings are looking really good and booking some for mid next year but would like more work to come my way.

If you want to work for nothing work for a agent,i wouldnt touch them with a barge pole im Midlands based not cheap full time with a good reputation ,and after 20 odd years doing this the only way to be successful and make a good living is do it yourself agents are just after there cut hang on to the money and could easily bankrupt a mobile dj through not paying him.
Good ones very few and far between.

Talk about making sweeping statments!!!

I know of several good agencies in the Midlands area (I would class myself as one of them), they are all run by DJ's who give extra work to other DJ's that they know will do a good job for them.

Agents are 'after their cut' we dont do it out of the goodness of our hearts!! It takes a lot of hard work to run an agency properly, making sure that DJ's know where they need to be etc, talking to clients even meeting clients on behalf of the DJ!

Ps, a good agent will inform the DJ of the payment terms, none of my DJ's are paid any later than 7 days after the event (assuming that they have invoiced me for the work done)!

However if you would like me to cover a gig for you on a date i have available you could proove me wrong and i will stand corrected.

I started out with just being a disco, due to the huge demand for what I did however I now have a team of DJ's that I pass work to on a weekly basis.

I take the booking, sort out the paperwork, meet the client if required etc etc - surely this makes me an agent?

The venues that I supply DJ's at pay within 7 days - many pay on the night! I dont supply DJ's to Hiltons, Marriots etc however. The vast majority of my work is from private clients however.

I will of course bear you in mind for future work, all new DJ's go to the bottom of the list of prefered DJ's that I have on the wall in the office.

Dont worry about me covering a gig we really do find our own work i notice your based in Leicester i was resident dj at Oneils for 2 years had some great nights over there.

I used to go to Life pretty much every Thursday between the ages of 18 - 22 (im 26 now)
