I mentioned in a couple of posts a few months ago that I am a presenter on a Local Community Radio Station...Well yesterday, we had our official launch yesterday and the party was broadcast LIVE from Trinity Nightclub in Tamworth.

Anyways, back to the point, I am on from 6pm - 8pm today.

You can listen on 106.8fm if you're in the midlands (but more towards Tamworth) and also online at www.tcrfm.co.uk

any idea of the range (distance) of your signal scott?

We've had reports from people receiving it 80 miles away, but it just depends on the terrain as hills are very good at blocking the signal.

As someone who's interested in the technical aspects of radio, I'd be keen to know the ERP (effective radiated power) from your aerial, how high above ground level your aerial is & what kind of structure it's mounted on.

If you've been heard 80 miles away, that's a hell of a distance for a community station, so I'm assuming you have an excellent broadcast site, as I wouldn't think a community radio station would be allowed to use much power.

Rob, I'm not too sure what the output of the Transmitter is, all I do know is that our aerial is at (or one of) the highest point's in Tamworth.

We haven't got it cranked up to max, as Ofcom came and inspected and set the output. :D

If you get out for 80 miles, then I'm not surprised!

In my radio days, we broadcast from the second highest point in Surrey (600 feet above sea level) with 120 watts, but we still only managed 30-40 miles max.

I was hoping to listen to the first 15 -20 minutes of your show this evening, but just before 6pm I had a phone call with a disco enquiry. After a fairly short chat the guy said he'd speak to his wife & phone me back, which he did just that after about 2 minutes, so by the time I'd taken the details it was time to leave for work.

Hopefully I'll catch you next time.
