10-15 years ago...party games were a staple of the entertainment I provided. Thankfully times have changed and my clientelle no longer want this. Three times this week alone (twice at wedding fayre and once just now at a client meeting) I've been asked "Do you do games? as we don't want any". For the most part, I thought those days were long gone, but there must be DJs out there still doing games on a regular basis to have clients firmly stating that it's something they do not want.

On the flipside, I have a christmas party in December where the client has specifically asked for some games. The last time I was asked for them was about 8 years ago, so it's something I thought was no longer commonplace.

I don't think it's commonplace - I've been asked for no games, and I've been asked to do all sorts of games from the usual kids stuff, to middle ground competitions at weddings through to full-blown 18-30's type stuff that you'd see in some of the ruder seaside pubs and clubs (I decline these gigs now - I did them once and I can't do 'em with a straight face).

I honestly cannot recall anyone asking us for games (or asking if we do/don't play them) in the last 12 years. (Speaking only of adult gigs only here: obviously different for kids parties)

I did a combined 21st/Engagement on Monday and was asked on the hoof to amuse the kids for the early part of the evening. Invented my own game, give each kid 5 glo-sticks connected together in a string and run around to try and remove them from the others and add them to yours. Not as easy as it sounds as the longer your string, the more vulnerable it becomes. Balanced out pretty even in the end, gained interest from the adults...........and got me the booking for the wedding in November 2010.

Funny, but ive just been asked to DO games for one nexy year. Family coming from all over for a wedding and most have never met so they want ice breakers and a team quiz chucked in early on.

So, if someone had already booked you for a party and then came to you and asked if you could just include a few silly games during the evening, would you refuse?

After all, most DJs don't like an awful lot of the music they play, so saying you don't do games because you don't like them seems a bit of a feeble excuse!

Its covered in the initial face to face consultation that we don't do them and if they want them we can help source someone of good quality who can do that kind of event for them. Part of our service is not to take work we are not suited to. We would be no good at them.

If anyone does them I can use the new map to point people their way ;)

We can do a great Deal or Not Deal (name changed for licensing reasons). We compere it for our Casino client.

A few weeks ago I did an engagement party and the couple were having an Hawaiin themed evening and asked for some party games so I organised a hula hoop contest and a limbo.

It's the only time in my short career I've been asked for games at an adult party but it did get me the promise of the wedding disco as a result

ive never been asked to do party games at adult parties, until yesterday. The client wants musical chairs & a passing the balloon between legs game.

Im happy enough to do it (had plenty practice at kids parties) but its never happened with adults before in 20 years.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I can't help thinking that adult parties (and nights out) have become more themed and gamey over the last decade or so. There seem to be more people than ever going out dressed up or taking along kits with games/dares/questions/etc in them, and this seems to be starting to reflect on private parties too.

I did an 80's night back in March where all of the partygoers had to dress up with multi-coloured items of clothing and then every 20mins or so throughout the night they had to swap items of clothing with each other to see if they could end up wearing items of all the same colour at the end of the night! It worked really well in the end, but I keep getting asked for things like this at the moment.

That reminds me of a NYE party I was at (not as the DJ but as a guest) and the DJ asked for 5 males and females who were not in a relationship with each other to come to the dance floor. Then he announced that the first couple to completely swap all clothes (including underwear) would win, all the couples scrambled off to the toilets (or god knows where) and came back wearing everything the other person had been wearing.

From a guest point of view I thought that was funny
