I've just had a phone call and taken on 5 bookings in December (including NYE), I now have every Friday & Saturday booked and also Xmas eve & NYE. Good times... :D :D :D

good on you i had the same done a gig two weeks ago 3 days later they rang me up and asked me if i could do nye ( in the bag ) then rang today and asked if i could do the 12th dec but i am booked so told then i can get them someone so not a bad result

If you get a contract with a hotel belonging to any of the main hotel groups, then it's standard to invoice and receive payment afterwards. If you can't work like that, then they can't deal with you at all.... most have no idea what cash is, and they certainly do not pay in advance!

And I used to work for one which had immense difficulty in locating the person authorised to sign the cheque for the work I'd done in the previous month. :bang: He appeared to only exist on a quarterly basis. :bang: :bang:

A friend of mine puts lots of discos into certain racecourses & large hotel groups each December.

If he's lucky, they process his invoice in January, so that's when he gets paid. However, they sometimes miss the January payroll, in which case he doesn't get paid until February...which is not an ideal situation when you're talking about a five figure sum, but unfortunately there's no way around it.

Yes there is. Put a "Due Date" and state that anything after this time will gain interest and even go to court.

I had one hotel that was famous for missing their payment deadlines...until i started doing that. Now they are perfect payers.

True of most Hotels, however, I did have the situation a couple of years ago, when one of my Hotels paid me the whole month in advance. I was slightly shocked to say the least, but then I have been there over 20 years.

Even more good news!

Got an cancellation yesterday on 5th December for a work colleague's disco.

Literally an hour later I got an email enquiry for the same date for Hull & Humberside Round Table that I did 2 years ago (couldn't do last years as I was already booked).

Got the booking for £100 more than the original booking and also got to keep the £50 non refundable booking fee. Also, they have a live band playing so even less playing time than the original booking!

And another good bit of good news, the guy who's booked me up over Christmas has promised to give me more work in 2010.
