Received a call from a mother who is seeking a DJ for her son's 18th Birthday party.

The event is in December and the DJ was booked. She booked the DJ on the referral of another DJ who she knew personally.

She received a call from her DJ today advising that took the equipment that he uses (do not have full details) was doubled booked.

However, she went on to say that she later found that he took another booking. But this what I am missing He charged for £200 her event, but took the other booking for £130.

Happy ending as I've referred her to a DJ that we regularly pass onto as he was available; we have no availablity on that date even though I originally quoted her £250.

Presuming he hasn't already trousered a large Non Returnable Booking Fee, as well as the second gig: Fringe benefits? ;) :D

I can only think of a couple of reasons why a DJ would cancel a £200 booking in favour of one for £130.

Either he really didn't want to do the 18th for some reason, or the £130 gig is for a good mate...so he'd rather do that...despite earning less money.

A bit like my gigs this weekend. 10 minutes up the road last night & tonight is only 5 minutes away (as well as an 11pm finish...wooohooo!).

Could be that the higher-priced gig was at a rough/dodgy venue.

In fact, there could be any number of reasons. It's not very professional, I know, but these things do happen!

Maybe he didn't realise until after taking the booking. I know I've took bookings before only to find out the venues are the gateway to hell!

Never cancelled them or double-booked them, though. Mind you, I took on one such booking once and a few weeks later the client rang up to tell me her son didn't want a party after all. I made it sound like I was disappointed but told her not to worry when actually I was thinking "Woohoo!"

No everything was sent from what she was saying. It was the DJ that called her up and cancelled. It is very unprofessional of a DJ to take on a job without the resources to complete it.

i agree it sounds very unprofessional but something don't seem right, i can't see the dj telling her his got a cheaper booking but at least you got it sorted for her
