Just a thought (cortex and timecode)

Just a quick thought as you can use dual cd players for timecode, I was thinking if you could use the cortex in the same way with external cd drives hook upto it ??.

I havent tried it yet myself as i want to know if it will work before i start messing with things, ted

Rip the timecode to an MP3 to play in the Cortex. That 'should' work.
Works with Denon & Pioneer media players.

so i could just use the timecode mp3 off the virtual dj website and play it on the cortex using a hard drive without the need of using cd drives ?

As I said you 'should' be able to. The VDJ files work with the Denon HD 2500 and the Pioneer MEP 7000.

Never tried it with the Cortex unit I'm afraid.

I'm sure I've asked before what a timecode CD is. :confused: :confused: I'm sure you're not asking this question, but I've got an USB drive connected to one Cortex for playing those big shiny silver things. ;)

adam we have had a little bit of sucess, after speaking to a pal of mine, he sugguested downloading asio4all, so i did, i then got the cortex, plugged in the hdd and ran the timecode mp3 and it played, thats good news lol, then i got a phono to 3.5mm wire and pluged that into my computers in jack on the intergrated soundcard, messed around with some settings on the timecode within virtual dj, we had a little bit of sucess, the jog wheels wouldnt work, only the pitch about 5% plus and minus which is pants :D and the play/pause button worked with the software.

I didnt use any flash soundcards, just asio4all and a simple wire, now am thinking if i take this a step futher with the full monty ie suitable soundcards, would this idea fully work.

also, i plugged my headphones into the headphone jack on my computer and their was a harsh noise with the song, but the noise was more over whelming.

Hey its you agian :D A timecode CD is basicly a mp3 file burnt onto a cd so you can use dual cd players to controll virtual dj and the likes using asio soundcards or which in this case using asio4all and a basic wire to see if the thing will work, and yes it does but not as good as i would like.

so basicly with the timecode mp3 on your harddrive you will beable to use the cortex to controll virtual dj abit like the denon and pioneer have built in.

Cool

I'd advise on an audio interface though.

Something like a ESI Maya 44 USB, Numark DJ IO, Native Intruments DJ 2, American DJ Versaport etc....

Out of your Cortex, into two inputs on the audio interface, then two outputs into channels on your mixer, and the interface into a USB port on your PC/Mac/Laptop.

Makes it a bit easier for you.
