Bad DJs are obviously the ones with the cheaper gear.

I sometimes think DJ's can get too caught up in having the best equipment out there, obviously it helps, but it all boils down to whether the guests have a good time or not, who agrees?

A good mobile DJ must turn up on time, have the technical skills to operate the equipment, maintain a suitable and constant audio level, and select and play music appropriate to the audience, keeping the momentum.

For me, these are the basics.

I, like many others in my position would dearly love to have some RCF's, Martin's, HK Audio etc but although I am very much part time I still look at what I do as a business, so bearing in mind that I only do the occassional gig and the rates are not brilliant :sofa: .... it would be really foolish of me to splash out a few grand on top quality equipment.

I have had some great feedback recently and also turned away (offered to another DJ friend) loads of work, this is because I am really busy in my day job as our company has increased it's sales of their cars by a tremendous amount (due mainly to scrappage scheme) and I am able to work unlimited overtime.

If I was more reliant on the income from the disco then the chances are I would invest some money in higher end gear and try and delve into the wedding/corporate market but I can assure you my style of Dj'ing would not change (only improve, hopefully) and then I could recoup some of my outlay.

I love Dj'ing, from the nerves and apprehension you get before the gig to the euphoria (mostly) you get at the end knowing you have done a good job and made a few people happy.

Not one person has ever commented on my sound or light show in a derogatory way, in fact the cluster laser I use has had some fantastic comments and a few venues I have played at are thinking of having it installed there.

That's my tuppence worth anyhow.

What about the numerous gigs I & others on here have done where nobody danced all night & then at the end of the night loads of people thank you for a fantastic night that they really enjoyed??????????

My best one to date was one particular act that insisted on being different to the rest of the line up, refusing to go through the d&b Q series and insisting on bringing in their aged pair of H&H pro 100 speakers, a much tattier version of the cab in this piccy. As you can imagine, they put the Q to shame :p
