I am designing (or trying to design) a new site for my race nights.

I have uploaded some pages, but on certain computers the layout, background colour etc is wrong and looks awful.

Basically there should be a white background on all pages. The contact page layout is also totally wrong. Have tried on 6 different computers and works on 3 and not on the other 3 - any ideas ??

The site btw is www.pp-races.co.uk

(Not looking for comments on the content just yet ;) )

Everything appears to display correctly in IE7.

Cheers Rob. :beer1:
The problem seems to be different computers not operating systems or IE, for some reason. The contacts page is the worst and even misses off the email address

I hate computers :D :D

How strange.

I've just checked again & the contact page is also fine on my monitor & PC, including the email address being there.

Maybe you should wait for the web guru to put in an appearance.

I use google chrome and have the following to report ;)

home page ok White background

Basic Info  Greyish bgnd text either grey or black and overuns on the last paragragh below white border.

How to organise OK :D

Fully compared as per basic info page but no overun

DIY: as per basic info but RED font

I'll look at the other pages in a mo as I'll forget to bid on the ebay item otherwise ;)

ok, I lost so here's the rest!

Our fee as per basic info but no over run

Contact us: Again greyish background and the mobile number is the very last thing.

Email addy is below the border but is there as the cursor turns into a little hand if you know what I mean :D

hope that helps ;)

Stick it through www.browsershots.org

Something is very wrong!

My advice would be to download Firefox (http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/), IE8 (http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/internet-explorer/) and Safari for Windows (http://www.apple.com/safari/download/).

This will let you see your site in various browsers, something you should check as you go along.

Then download and install IETester (http://my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage) and / or Microsoft Expression Web SuperPreview (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8e6ac106-525d-45d0-84db-dccff3fae677&displaylang=en), these will let you test your site in earlier versions of IE (with IE8 installed on your system).

Then download the Firebug addon for Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843), this will let you examine the code easier and might make it easier to spot where you're going wrong.

Also, run your pages through the WC3 Markup Validation Service (http://validator.w3.org/), and fix any errors / warnings - standards compliant code stands a far better chance of looking as you intend across different browsers.

Using Firefox on the acer laptop running Windows Vista

Home page fine - white background
Basic Info - dark grey background, can hardly make out a thing
How to organise - fine, white background
Fully compered - all over the place - half photos from the previous page - the running hores gifs over a dark grey background disecting the photos

DIY, Costs, Links &N Contacts I can't bring up

will try on the mac in a mo

The browsers do not seem to be the problem and have checked this. I can use the same O/S and browser on 2 different computers and will ALWAYS work on 1 and NEVER work on the other ??

It will always be a browser issue, trust me. If 2 PCs with the same OS & browser are showing different content, it's because the content is cached on one of them.

Press CRTL-F5 to force a refresh. If that doesn't work clear your browsers cache.

What do you mean by clearing the cache ??

Cached   Your speaking to a novice here :D
What do you mean by clearing the cache ??

When you visit a site, a copy of it is stored on your PC in what is called your browser's cache. This is so that if you visit it again, you don't need to download it (instead, you're actually looking at your browser's cached version of the page).

Additionally, your ISP may also cache pages. This is a little more difficult to clear than your own cache.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache#Web_cache

Got you, cheers Marc.

Its a strange one but am going to try your earlier suggestions as it obviously needs to work on any computer / OS / Browser etc. without any 'messing about'

Looking the same now!

one thing I did notice is that when you're on "Fully compared" the "How to" option has gone off the menu bar

Can't get contact to load though, but maybe my pc

Anyway off to the pub as it is part of this fulltimers daily structure :D
