where do i start, tonight was meant tobe a night off before the xmas season for us but last sunday a good friend phoned, his van had broken down the previous evening and was worried about a gig he had this week, only a childrens party 6 till 8, so we said we would do it (after he had checked with the client) anyway he sent us the booking form it said acces at 5 start 6 finish 8 and out by 9. so we turned up at 5, the parents were there but the place was locked, at 5:15 i phoned a contact i have at the school and after some phoning around ,he phones back and tells me someone is on the way.10 to 6 still no one, a few phone calls later(by this time children were turning up in party clothes ( and it is pouring down with lightning around) i'm told the lady is less than 5 minutes away, 10 past 6 she turns up,she hasn't got the keys to the building but has the keys to an annex classroom to get the kids in the dry, while the caretaker was on his way. we eventually got access at 7pm, we had music playing by 10 past and lights on by 20 past, we then carryied on till 8:30 and everyone went home happy (well happy with us but not the school)

Well done that man. :approve:
How I hate venues which don't tell the truth. A lot of pubs and clubs don't open till they let the punters in. :bang:
Punter tells you the gig is a 7pm start. No probs. You ring the venue to ask what time you can get access: 7pm. Aaaaaaaargh! :bang:

this was totally the fault of the school, talking to my contact he said they don't have any procedures in place for bookings it seems tobe all done by word of mouth, the parents were furious they booked and paid for the hall from 5 . thats why we done an extra 30 mins for them

Very good customer service, Andy!
I remember one wedding gig at a local venue. Half-way through the night the place blew a fuse and we lost the power for over an hour (initially they blamed me and my equipment but later admitted the place was long overdue a rewire!). I was running between the management and the client & guests keeping them up to date with what was going on and doing my best to entertain them by candlelight. The beer pumps were off so everyone was drinking spirits! When the sparky finally got the fuse fixed, I arranged with the venue to play overtime for half an hour which really made the clients happy!
It was a hard-worked evening but I got further bookings from it so I certainly did something right!

one thing that did go down very well, was when the children went in the annex to wait for the caretaker we took in a couple pckets of glowsticks and gave to the girls parents, this kept them entertained and when we started they were all coverd in necklaces and earings
