Wireless Speakers

I saw some wireless speakers demo'd last week, sound quality was good and there was zero lag so I'm thinking of investing in some.

Anyone here use them and if so what do you think to them

to use at a regular enormous venue who has their own PA system but whose source gear is miles away from the DJ area and it works brilliantly.

So well in fact that I've since used it with my active Mackies set up about 20m away from the decks with no problems whatsoever. I just hook it up to the booth output on my mixer using the cables included and away we go.

Thought I'd flag it as a possible low-cost solution if you have a spare pair of speakers kicking around (or indeed an amp and pair of speakers kicking around). I've run the receiver on its internal rechargeable battery for 6 hours before now.

Not if you want to go further than 20 metres and not line of sight it isn't. ;)

I've used these in adjacent rooms with no problems - total distance about 15m - function room to bar in a manor house.

I'll get the name of the manufacturer for the ones they demo'd at the NADJ meeting last week.

I'm sure the price quoted was £299, and there wasn't a line of sight or distance restriction mentioned.

What impressed me was that they had one speaker hard wired and the other (some distance away) was wireless and the sound quality was the same and zero delay/lag on the wireless speaker.

I'll post back when I know who made the kit

Would i be right in saying that the wireless sender goes from the amp output?

In theory, yes, in which case nudge one of the tx frequencies.

In practice, no, not as yet.

Mine connects to a line level source so mixer out, amp daisychain, crossover out etc.

do you think this could replace wires as that accounts for allot of my set up time?
It would get the speakers on the other side of the room facing me which would be great as i would hear everything!

I would not want to risk it personally?

With a couple of long wires at hand just in case, I'd go for it. There's enough time during setup to determine if interference is indeed a problem and adjust your thinking.

I have hired some UHF senders for a presentation night earlier this year that required a second set of speakers, the speakers at far end of the room were on a first floor balcony and so left no room for interuption of the signal so worked fine. If they had been on the same floor there would have been a danger of the signal being interupted by the people walking around.

i used to use a video sender to get karaoke from my system to a tv at the other end of a pub. It worked fine until the owner installed a wireless router.

It interfeared with the video senders signal, causing major picture problems. Its possible the same would happen with this type of audio sender. The £20 does have various channels which might help though.

Highly unlikely with it being a UHF signal. You'd need a LOT of people.

I might try it tomorrow as im doing portsmouth guildhall.

Im putting a big stack in front of the dance floor and two actives at each side of the (massive) stage for some stereo. Would not matter if one of them went down :) .

good test as its at least 30m.
