Ok, not strictly mobile Disco related, but if I could draw on the groups collective experience for a minute...

I've been asked to Mic up a school choir to a PA for a performance. There's about 30 of them and they'll be standing a reasonably close group - but there is no way I'm going to get a mic on each of them!

What kid of Mic's do you need to get effective and clear sound reproduction for groups of people? I'm assuming they're going to have a different dynamic (broader, more sensitive pickup?) to the kind we use in the field for vocal performances or the usual banter?

Tony, I read that post. Unless there are some good ( excellent) hire shops close, I was going to suggest the cheap Karaoke favourite. Serried ranks of Behringer 3 for £20. :sofa: If hiring more suitable ones isn't an option, then something like that might be the cheapest alternative?

I like the idea of Shotgun mikes, by the way.

I'm thinking of hiring - I've got two good theatrical hire shops within a 10mile radius of me, but would like to go in with a rough idea of what I'm talking about :)

I notice on that thread that they discuss mic's like the Neumann KM184's @ £562 each and AKG C414's @ £495 each. I get the feeling that hiring might be a good (cheaper) option as I'm not going to be investing that much in any Mic any time soon (imagine handing one of those over to someone for Karaoke....?!)

I guess a cheap and probably quite workable alternative if I was going to be doing this regularly would be something like the Behringer C series of Mic's (Behringer C-4 (http://www.behringer.co.uk/EN/Products/C-4.aspx) for instance - £47 a pair?)

Has anyone ever used studio Condenser Mic's?
