View Full Version : Has anybody got anything in for Jan, Feb, March 2010?
As the title suggests.
I know its always quiet that time of year, but I have one gig in three months and that only came in today. A repeat job from one I couldn't actually do last year, but they still came to me first - Happy happy joy joy.
Otherwise its thumb twidling.

Yeah yeah I have a few dates with schools, Masons, private doo's....but nothing to get excited about. I'm worried actually. Hardly any work coming in compared to the past few months.
A few enquires for the wedding season, but all have said "Too expensive" :(

I have 1 whole weekend spare in January, the same in February and March is full.
May, June, July, September and October are also full.

14 so far. I often get quite a few short-notice kids parties after new year, so expecting maybe 20 across the three months. April's better than last year, and September is strong. Otherwise the summer is fairly quiet, but that's not unusual at this stage.
So far, not concerned.
Whatever way I put it, it will sound like I am waving the old todger so I'll say it anyway.
I have 1 whole weekend spare in January, the same in February and March is full.
May, June, July, September and October are also full.

Haha... To be honest with you, at this time during the last 2 years, I have been worried about the work coming in and have had around 5 or 6 private bookings alongside residency work. I have near on 30 private bookings already alongside residency work already and it isn't even the new year yet so as I am sure you can understand....I'm happy and also confident that 2010 will be my best year to date and to be totally honest...I think I deserve it. I've worked bloody hard enough.

11 in total over the 3 months, but my higher fees kick in properly after the year so financially ok. Often get a lot of last minute calls as people seem to put off booking until after xmas.

5 in Jan, 2 in Feb, 1 in Mar = 8 usually Jan is quiet for us, but only 1 free weekend.
Looks like Feb maybe the month we are quiet.

One in Jan, two in Feb & three in March.
This year I had nothing in Jan or Feb & three in March...so the beginning of next year is a big improvement on that.

Thank for for your suggestion, but historically January and February are the months when people book their Weddings for the summer. Those 20% booking fees soon add up, and with 3-4 per week equating to 2 pub gigs, I'd rather spend my time on the various website upgrades/changes/promotion I need to do :)

i've got my residency (local pub every friday) but apart from that i only have a 40th and a wedding in january and a masonic function in febuary so far --- always have a lull but seems to be quieter than usual --- picking up in april as i have 4 confirmed but need a few more brave people to get married in the wind and rain !!!!!:D :D :D

If you are charging the going rate for Wedding DJing (around £500), then that is probably expensive for anyone, But considering they spend several thousand on their wedding, that is probably one of the lowest costs involved.

If Catering is several thousand, cars, room hire, then the DJ is one of the lowest costs involved, from a financial point of view,
That is unless your wedding is held at the local football club!

January has picked up quite well recently with 7 events on, 5 that I am doing personally. That amount normally wouldnt be too good but the average fee is high so its all good as they include dance floor bookings also.

It is undeniably quiet but then it usually always was for most of us. That is why shops always had a January sale. Many years ago I made a lifetstyle choice to always take my main holiday in January/February; so Jan and I will be abroad somewhere warm and sunny for 2 of the weekends.
As I started this thread I will add this.
Just got two more bookings off my corporate Casino client. One in Jan and one in Feb. X factor style talent contests again so easy work. Repeat business is a joy.

Absolute waste of money.....more and more are ending in Divorce anyway.
Divorce is much more fun....and an awful lot cheaper:eek:

The first three months have indeed been quiet for me but I am happy to say that in the last couple of weeks there has been a flurry of enquiries and firm bookings.

Overall I've been quiet too. I was busy last month and despite a good start to this month I've had nothing 2 weekends in a row. The bookings are starting to come in quite regularly now though, well, by my standards.

I have been really surprised - Working pretty much every weekend. 3 enquires this week and just confirmed one for a wedding.

The advert I took out with Yell.com just before christmas has technically paid for itself twice over.
Until this weekend where I'm out both Friday and Saturday. It's always been one or the other.Never both. Not this year anyway. So yes fairly pleased with the way things are starting to go:)

Looking at my figures for Jan-Mar against last year.
Turnover is down 15%
Profit up 3%
And profit margin has gone from 37% to 45%
I seem to have had plenty of free weekends though!!
Both turnover and profit in these three months accounts for 13% of the whole financial year.

I've had two Saturdays off (one out of choice due to needing to clean & service and PAT, and MOT the now-defunct van) but have worked every Friday except during the snowy week when the gig got cancelled.
Also had a Wednesday night (unusual round these parts!).
So all in all, not a bad start to the year.
Now looking to put my disco feet up a bit during spring as I have other projects demanding my attention. Working approximately 50% of Fridays & Saturdays through 'til June-ish.

No idea but its fits and starts. We are well ahead by end of May and just taken two jobs in last two days, plus turned two down as already booked.
It has picked up, but I still have bugger all in June!

Yes...it only mentions Jan, Feb & March 2010, because they were the months the OP was asking about when starting the thread back in December 2009, so I don't know why you're saying the title needs revamping when it's an old thread.
If you're suggesting that you want people to post about forthcoming months SINCE March, surely it's best to start a new thread?
