Hi as my xmas parties start tomorrow, i was wondering...
is it ok to play Another Rock & Roll Xmas by Gary Glitter, does anyone still play this?

Would I play it - NO. I actually got rid of all GG songs when I went digital. Personal opinion only though.

Last saturday night I did my first christmas party of the year and as the guests were getting seated, the background music was playing quietly. No'one noticed and no'one said anything but as I was about to leave the room to let the background music continue on it's own, I heard the opening bars of the song. I just skipped over it because I wondered at the time if it would be accepted or if people would make a comment.

Well, the disadvantage of still using CDs is that you can't delete tracks from CDs. Well, you can if you're handy enough with a stanley knife, I suppose. As far as anyone is concerned though, I don't have any GG tracks. Oddly enough, I've never had a request, despite having many requests for similar tracks (Mud, T-Rex, Slade etc). So I guess it's worked out OK for me!

I have to say, I would feel ever so slightly uncomfortable on my Xmas night out if it was played.... and I also must admit that it would make me wonder whether the DJ consciously decided to play it, or if he was just ignorant of what he was playing!

But the current music has no shelf life at all.The quality music of the post used to regularly stay at numer 1 for 7 or 8 weeks and very much more.What was the last one recently that went for more than four weeks;)

As neither have anything relevant out....of course some 'DJ's' will still be playing 'Day 'N' Night' and 'Low' thinking it's cutting edge cool ;) only because Kid Cudis last two releases (She Came Along with Sharam (didn't seriously trouble dancefloors) & Make Her Say ft Kanye West amongst others (was a slow song)) were pretty rubbish, or maybe Flo-Ridas collabaration with Akon called 'Available' which you'll clearly be aware of, as it hasn't exactly set the music world alight since release a few weeks ago.

I Gotta Feeling by BEP, Been No.1 twice and has been at the top end of the charts for over half a year, still there as we speak - no longevity at all, or even Sex On Fire that was top 40 for OVER a Year!!!!!! No longevity at all ;)

I wouldnt play Rock and Roll Xmas because I dont take it to gigs with me. In fact I dont take any GG with me so then I do not have to lie if I ever got asked to play any. There is no way I would want to contribute to him earning royalties.

Is it just me or am I missing something here.I have worked in Radio and had to submit a playlist at the end of the session...but never submitted a playlist for the end of the weddings/birthday what I have done.

I have had PRS turn up to a venue and make a record of what I played for the majority of the night until they finally left, so it does happen. It was way back in 2001, but they did turn up.

Not surprising---one of the best Disco style Xmas songs ever with that Glitterband backing sound, and of course GG was THE name in the early 70s era of Disco.

it is a shame we can't seperate paul gad from gary glitter, we really only play it when requested, going back to last night it is fantastic when you do the same party each year and see the same faces, the lady came up asked for gg and i told her we already had it lined up for her, someone else came up and asked for as much 70's as we can, i said we would do what we can , she looked at jamie and said i know he will i still remember last years party he is brilliant then winked and walked away:) made us both feel good

if we stopped playing all artist that have convicted of anything we would have very short playlist's and even shorter careers as dj's. we are there to entertain our customers/clients and that means playing what they want to hear

Not necessarily true.....apart from the famous case in the USA, he has received cautions (for which you need to admit guilt !) for other matters. There will no doubt be 'victims' who will not relate directly.
