Edinburgh recomendations

Mainly for our friends north of the border ;)

Part of the other halfs Xmas present is a couple of tickets to see Ronan Keating in concert :eek: She's always wanted to go to Edinburgh so it's two birds with one stone time :D

Looking for a decent Hotel (4/5*) near to the station and Usher Hall. Also want to go on a "Ghost walk / tour" on the first night there.

Going in last week of Feb next year ;)

I am not north of the border but have visited.

Roxburghe is the obvious choice for quality 600 ish metres for the station. I have also stayed in the Apex International Grassmarket which was very pleasant about 400 ish metres from the station.

Been to Edinburgh a few times for work but only stopped in Premiers...:(

For a city Edinburgh is very small - everywhere is within 10 minutes walking distance of everywhere esle!

The Glasshouse (http://www.theetoncollection.com/content.aspx?pageID=450) is nice. When I stayed there it was unfinished, only one floor was open. Nice rooms though and an "honesty" bar :)

The Witchery by the castle (http://www.thewitchery.com/) is also nice, in a totally different way (very Gothic). I've had a tour but haven't stayed, as any time I've wanted to (anniversary etc) I've not checked long enough in advance. But you might get lucky. The restaurant there is really good.

Avoid the Edinburgh Dungeons, Mary King's Close (http://www.realmarykingsclose.com/) is probably the best one. I haven't tried any of the walking tours...

For eating, if you're looking to treat the other half I'd recommend: -
