Impedance ?

For an event tomorrow I need to run satellite speakers, but the only ones I have that will fit in the space available (restricted depth !) are the Peaveys from the top of my Escort 3000 which are 4ohm. If I connect these in parallel, i.e from the speakon out of 8ohm speakers, am I correct in thinking this will give an overall impedance of only 3ohm ?

No chance of running them off a separate amp, is there? Safer.

If you connect two 8 ohm speakers in parallel, the load will be 4 ohms
If you connect three 8 ohm speakers in parallel, the load will be 2.6 ohms

Using car speakers as PA speakers is like using a screwdriver as a chisel (or vice versa). The wrong tools for the job generally deliver bad results.

However, hiring is your friend. I see you're in Cornwall, the closest rental house I know of is Puxleys in Exeter, they would sort you out a pair of E3 and a D6 for £50, lovely little boxes for restricted spaces, that would do the job proud.

Come on Tony, reading glasses on, pair of 8 ohms, and pair of 4 ohms. In the area of 2.7 ohms. Fine if he's got a good amp. but as we both know, one pair will be way louder than the other. If he had a spare amp, I'd go that way.

Sorry Peter, I didn't realise he had two pairs of speakers. Unless I'm missing something, he just made reference to needing satellite speakers and suggested using some speakers from his car, hence my suggestion to hire a pair of nice little speakers and an amp :p

:Tumble: aaaaah, I think you're right, Peter. I honestly thought an Escort 3000 was a 3 litre XR3/Cosworth-type jobby from Ford, and the OP was going to use his car speakers as PA cabs. Google indeed suggests it's a suitcase style Pervey, oops, I mean Peavey sound system. I shall :zip: :p :p

I make it 2.667 ohms per channel, and as I don't need too much volume I'm hoping that my DA1300 will do the neccessary. Seperate amp is an option but again restrictions on space (store foyer between the basket stacks !) means that somewhere I need to find a compromise.

Personally I wouldn'r risk it for two reasons.
1) I'm not sure the Warrior is 2ohm stable, ( I'm fairly sure it isn't)
2) The 4 ohm cabs will sound way louder than the 8 ohms, and with one amp, you'll have no way to balance them.

Just an update, opted to go for the single amp option due to space limitations.
Good old Warrior proved stable enough for 4 hours of background and local FM Radio Station to go through my rig for the other two hours.
Dunno I'd want to risk it again though ;)
