View Full Version : Laptop to run VDJ.

Hi all,

You may have noticed I've posted a fair few, "I'm looking for a new..." topics recently, so here's another one!

I'm looking to upgrade a few areas of my rig. These include, a Cortex as back up to my HC4500, add a sub to my setup, upgrade my KAM mixer and finally to buy a laptop to use instead of my PC.

I've been looking round for some laptops that are powerful and are at most £400 inc VAT.

Have any of you got any ideas as to good specs to run VDJ? I don't plan to have any other bits of software on it, however it will be connected to the net.

So far I've found these two which interest me, what do you think?

It was very pricey but can handle pretty much anything.

I have all my school work, music, pictures, etc on it. I use it religiously every day, whether it's facebook, msn, the forum...or DJ'ing. It's very quick and out of two years, I think it's crashed once!

Thanks for your reply Charlie. I'm looking to keep costs down, as I've already spent £2000 on a computer this year for video editing :o The laptop I buy will only be used for VDJ, and the odd bit of net surfing.

My current PC has ProTools on it, hundreds of pictures, tens of thousands of music files on it etc, So am looking for a dedicated DJing laptop.

Ollie make sure that your software is compatable with the operating system first as well. Just to be sure as I remember the vista problems with pcdj when I first switched to vista from xp.
I have a compaq q64 which is very goos it also has 3gb ram but uses the amd version of the processor and it is silent. No fans etc unless major overheat happens. It also has seperate graphics card which reduces load on the processor. Importand if you ever decide to use PCVJ or similar.

Hey Matt,

I'll be getting the new laptop downgraded to XP from Vista anyway. I dislike Vista greatly, had nothing but problems on my video PC. I didn't know whether there was any 'must have specs' that other DJs have discovered are handy when using a laptop for VDJ and the like.

I would recommend dual booting one for general system (Facebook, MSN) and other system for your DJ system. Previous experience that DJ systems like clean machine (i.e just windows and DJ software) when performing live.

It may not be the most 'cool' laptop, but I bought a 'Median' laptop from ALDI.

A new one is on offer every few weeks and are usually within you budget.

I now use it alongside my HD2500
