evening everyone,

Ive been offered a 3.5m x 3m parquet dancefloor at a good price.

Its tempting, but i'm a bit impulsive and want to do my homework before committing.


for those who have one, have you found they are worth the investment? are they easy to hire as part of your DJ package? do you get a lot of work from venues etc?

and what would you consider a competitive price for a nights hire (ie - between £50-100, £150-200, £200-£300?


i like the idea, and can see big potential, but cant justify it if it sits in the garage most of its life.

also, do you get a lot of indoor work or are they mainly marquee based?


itd be interesting to see if you have had any luck with them.

Ive not got one, but did consider it. My intitial recation on the parquet on was "theres plenty of hotels without installed dancefloors round here", but what i found was that the ones which dont have installed floors do have their own portable ones. To that end, i would look at whats happening in your area, bearing in mind that with marquees, the hire company usually just doesnt carpet the wooden floor for the dancefloor area, so its fairly ready made.

Personally, im saving for mirrorer/checkered/led as its more unique and more saleable.

That's very small, so I would check you can source additional panels to increase the overall size of the floor if required. Also, if you can't source replacement panels, I would completely avoid, as one damaged panel & no spares makes the useable floor a lot smaller still.

As a wooden floor, check the condition and fit of the panels and edging - ensure they are not warped and that all the hardware is intact.

I personnally dont own a set ( if thats the right term ) but would love too, i know Paul has a led dancefloor which looks cool and i think that if you advertise/sell it as a package or an extra im sure it will pay for itself in no time, but again i dont own one so cant really say fom experiance but im sure others will proberley either same the same as me or totally disagree lol

Depends how much of a good price it is, I could have almost bought one brand new with the amount of hires I've had for them, but can't really justify it when I can just hire them in so cheap.

Black & White floors are a different story though, as most venues won't have these and there's a market to sell something a bit better than the plain wooden floor the hotel provide to the client.

Oh, and a 12ft x 12ft (3.6m x 3.6m) Parquet floor should get £150 - £200 for a nights hire easily, and they're easier to maintain than the acyrlic ones as you don't have to clean them as often, or as throughrougly.

Most hotels have their own parquet floors , I think if you're going to go into dancefloors then either something like Ben has (B&W led twinkly job:D ) or the full blown led type like I've got.

But do watch the size as I think if my floor was 4x4 and not 3x3 it would be out a lot more.

There's some parquet on the bay at the minute pretty cheap aswell

Funny you should say that as there's 4 of the same as mine on ebay at the minute.

Problem is though he wants more for those 4 panels than I paid for my 9 :eek: :eek:

I was considering the black floors with LEDs, then considering making one, the LEDS werent the problem, just the locking/safety of the floor.


the one im looking at is extendable and can be added to.

The thing I have found with dance floors is that whatever size you own people will always want bigger. I originally went for 4m x 4m with the starlit floor and now loads of people have booked 5.4m x 5.4m so I have had to buy in extra panels.

I've even had a 6.6m x 6.6m booked in for this weekend for example.

I would personally stay away from the parquet floor and save up for something a bit more unique, they arent cheap but the funkier dance floors are the way forward in my opinion.

The 30 x 46ft black and white floor that Dan put out at my gig on saturday looked ace for example

Your not wrong there! Just had another call to do a 40ft x 40ft for this Saturday!!! Though they rang back 2 mins later and decided 30ft x 30ft would probably be enough.

Is it the standard floorlok type? And what size is that in feet? 12ft isn't quite 4m and the next size up (15ft) is 4.5m??

its just prior to floor lock and the are 1m pannels, about 2.5cm thick made of a mdf type compound with proper parqet on top of it.

Maybe it's because I'm new to DJing but I don't get why a DJ would want/need a dance floor.

Every venue I have so far played in has had their own, to be honest I kind of figured that a dance floor was a pre-requisite for a venue that offers functions.

JTRS, certain venues do not have dance floors as standard and therefore this is a great add on to offer as a DJ.

Marquee's for example do not have dance floor's as standard and therefore offering a dance floor may get you the job over someone who does not offer this service.

You don't need one anymore than you need LED uplighters, starcloths, additional PA, or indeed anything else you can hire out to make money on. Some DJs aren't content (or can afford) to be just a DJ :)

I do agree that most venues have parquet floors, but not black & white ones, or starlit, or full LED.

That's what I'd have thought, as well as lighting, heaters (if it's winter) etc.
