Hello

I thought it was about time I introduced myself. I log into the forum several times a day, and have done for the past two years but have never posted anything. I thoroughly enjoy reading all the posts and have taken a lot of information away which has helped develop my business. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the regular contributors for the invaluable information you have indirectly given me.

I am 21 years old and currently in my fourth year at Leeds University studying accounting and finance. I have always had a keen interest in music from an early age, but it was not until I was 17 and could drive, that I started to take dj-ing seriously. When I started I could fit all the equipment into my Fiat Punto. I soon outgrew the Punto and had to purchase a van (an ex Royal Mail LDV Pilot to be precise) to transport all the equipment in. Earlier this year I sold the van and bought a twin axle box trailer to transport all the equipment in and a BMW 3 series estate to tow it.

Dj-ing has helped me fund my degree and I hope to keep the business running after I graduate as I really enjoy running the business and making people’s events a success.

Aside from dj-ing I am also a musician and have played with many bands and orchestras at a semi-professional level. My main instrument is the french horn and as this is a fairly rare instrument for people to play, I often get calls to go and play in concerts, but more often than not I am already booked dj-ing somewhere so don’t get to play as often as I used to. (The dj-ing is also much better paid than the musician jobs I get offered) I have played with bands and orchestras all over the UK and been on several European tours.

For those that are interested my current main kit list for the disco is

Sound

Mackie SRM450 x 2
Mackie SWA1501 x 2
Numark C3 FX Mixer
Numark CDN35 CD Player
Custom rackmount computer running PCDJ-VJ

Lighting

Ultimax wheel ‘n’ winch DJ stand
250w Acme Dynamo Scanner x 4
Acme Impossibled
Acme LED par panel x 4
Showtec Dmx Controller
S+H LED Starcloth DJ Booth

(Plus various backup equipment)

My work is mainly at weddings in marquees, country houses and hotels in and around Lincolnshire.

I hope to glean further information from the forum and will try and contribute some myself.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks

James

Howdy!

So, are you going to be a new addition to the people we can call upon to help answer our questions?

Four year course, thats longer than normal, is it Bachelors or specialist degree?

Anyway,
:welcome2:

Gathering from your Kit List, it seems over the past 2 years of reading the forum you have read well on what to buy for a decent setup.

I will await the pictures in the gallery. (Hopefully no wires showing!) ;)

Welcome along, and hopefully you can put back in to the forum what you have gained.
