Mackie sw1501

Morning all,
I've just brought 2x srm450 v1 & a pair of sw1501's second hand.
On one of the 1501's the driver has been replaced with a eminence kappa pro 500w 8ohm. After speaking with mackie they informed me that the original speaker fitted was in fact a 16 ohm driver. To make matters worse they no longer supply replacment drivers for the unit, all they do is recone the original, which of course I haven't' got. Any ideas or help in tracking down a suitable replacment would be appreciated.

Are you sure it is a 16 ohm driver, I have a 8ohm Mackie 15" driver which they replaced for me has a scratchy noise at low volume,suitable to recone , only used a couple of times.

Seem to remember reading that they fitted 15" drivers to curb their incendiary tendencies. Ask Shaun (Elite ) about them. Be ready to get behind the sofa though. ;)

I think you should recheck your info, as far as I'm aware, (I may be wrong) the 1501 is fitted with a 8 ohm driver LC15/3007-8, the '8' would suggest to me I'm right. THIS (link) (http://www.mackie.viewmedia.be/shopping/index.php?action=page&group_id=10000017&lang=EN) site has new original drivers available and if you google LC15/3007 8 you will find an American guy selling reconed original drivers. the early Mackie SA1521's had 16 ohm drivers fitted, are you getting the two mixed up? Whats fitted in the other cab?

Emminence made many of the original drivers for Mackie (branded Mackie) so it probably isn't as bad as you are thinking at the moment, you may have indentical drivers fitted. Is there a problem with the drivers other than the brand?

These guys were helpful to me when I had a problem with my SA1521's

I tried them out yesterday and they did sound out of phase. Balance on mixer set to left-fine, set right- fine but set in the centre I lost 75% of the bass response & the cab with the newer driver fitted was flapping badly. Open it up & as I suspected the driver was wired incorrectly. Sorted that out today & now they sound fine tbh. Maybe the guy I spoke to had the model numbers mixed up.
