Just a quick query:

theres a lot of professional DJs and entertainers on here, a lot of quality equipment and kit, but ive never heard anyone mention using or having

EV (electro-voice) SX300's

regarded by many as industry standard speakers, and available for under £1000 a pair.


is there any reason for this? anyone had any bad experiences with them?

SX300... they're a nice punchy cab, make a decent wedge too, very light (<15kg) although not the loudest box around @ 124dB

they also carry the JBL trait of liking a bit of welly to make them sing.

I know someone who has an EV system, not sure exactly what the model numbers are but it's a 1000w amp with two small speakers but he reckons it's got an awesome and massive sound. He paid around £2k on it with a couple of lighting fixtures too.

I know quite a few people who use them. Visual DJMax does I think. I have a pair of SXA100s which are smaller active versions.

I think they are a little too toppy if just run on their own without the bins. They are a fantastic vocalists speaker if used on the pub circuit. I don't think that they are very punchy at all without the subs. Great for vocals though.

A friend of mine has a pair that I have worked with a fair few times and they are a nice sounding speaker. They are little harsh on the top end but a little play with the EQ and they sound good.

An all around good versatile speaker.

They were classed as the industry standard . These days mackie rcf and DB are. Nice cabs but I found them very toppy. To be honest overpriced for what they are. The new series of 15's sound good but again overpriced when compared to the rcf.

I swear by them. I have always used them and have never (honestly) had a problem with them.

I've used the SX100's and now the SX300's, most often paired with SB122 subs. They are fantasic sounding speakers, and nice and light, but yes, need to EQ out the top a little! You can pick up these up for bargin prices especially at this time of year. I just got a pair delivered for under £600.
