Hi all,
I've been considering replacing my Magic Gobos with something that has a wider coverage, but i'm still not too keen on the LED effects... A light that has caught my eye recently is the Martin EFX500. (Infact I've seen the model above the 500 at a gig and they look great.)
From what I understand the EFX has a similar gobo projection style to the Magic gobos, but offers greater coverage due to the barrel mirror. So, I was just looking for your expert advice really!
I own 4 Dynamos, 2 Dynarocks, 1 Nebula & the 2 Magic gobos. I love my current lighting, and although I'd love some more complex gear at some point, I'm happy at the minute :) I really like the effect of the Dynarocks, as they're different to the Dynamos and it also means I have more lighting to switch between throughout the night.
So, here's my idea. If I could get hold of an EFX500 or a similar style of effect, here's what I believe could be a possible set up. (Bare in mind that this following setup is for big gigs: big halls, school proms etc)
Dynamo - Dynarock - Dynamo - EFX (w/ nebula above) - Dynamo - Dynarock - Dynamo
I know it's one of those personal preference things, and I agree in some cases "less is more" but for bigger gigs/venues, i'd like a fair amount of lighting to be able to switch between. Because of the shape of the Dynarocks, I think it will help keep my cross bar neater as 6 of the lights will have the same design.
For small venues, i'd use something like:
Dynarock - EFX (w/ nebula above) - Dynarock
Any ideas or comments?
Thanks guys.
