In my opinion a good budget choice for small to medium venues. I used exactly this configuration for about 2 years and was pleased with the sound quality and levels. My only complaint about the Pro range was needing to keep glueing the carpet covering back after every 2 or 3 gigs. Also, some folks don't "get along" with the teardrop shaped handles, although it never presented me with a problem.

I still keep a pair of Pro15s for backup.

If buying new, though, there's probably better active solutions for the same cash if you're willing to consider them?

No disrespect to any one ,but i had some Pro 15s and when they are at max, people still asked me to turn it up. ok in small venue up to 50 people in my opinion. If you going for the Peaveys go for the UL range 500 rms each. Never had any problems with these and sound good on their own, just tops and sound great with matching subs:)

what amp were you using and did you have subs, we have the pro 12's top and bottoms with the 2600 amp,we've done a lot bigger then you describe and never had any problems with sound levels

They were the old 250 rms, 4 ohms and were running them with plenty of power to spare with Numark dimension 4 650 rms per side, so well over the top with amp.

No subs, so maybe thats the difference. Only used them as second set up. I suppose with subs they would have been a lot better.;)

Anybody got any comments on this package before i buy

Two comments:

Firstly, have a search on the forum, as I'm sure this has been done to death before.

Secondly, there are a lot nicer sounding budget sound packages available - again there are many threads on them. Searching for "Class D" will be a good starting point.

I use a pair of the Pro Subs when I do some gigs where I use the JBL's, simply because the JBL's can sometimes sound too high end. The Pro Subs are run through the Crown XLS802 and fill out the whole sound a bit more.
They are ok for the price I paid for them but at some point in 2010 I want to get a DB Active Sub. I can use that with the DB Active tops and also with the JBL's.

Totally agree with the carpet comment too. I gaffer taped the carpet down as generally no'one can see the backs of them when I am playing.

I've actually just thought of something else that may be related to this so I'll start another thread on that.

Too true, they're awful. :(

UL's, while great cabs, may be over budget.

Yeah, Class D sound nicer, but quieter. As for cost, well amazingly enough, Peavey can be found cheaper than Class D!

i've been using the same pair of pro-15s (250w 4ohm) for about 4 years. i run them through a kam kxr-1000 amp. never had a problem with sound levels or anything else.
my mate is in a band and they use 2 x pro-15 with 2 x pro-subs and it sounds amazing. i'd do the same but i'm limited on storage space at home.

Like other Peavey users of Pro 15s I am struggling to understand how you would have a problem in this situation unless the venue was too large for the speakers to cover.

I would reckon you could cover small to average size venues up to 100 people with Pro 15s on stands.

As regards the intended purchase go for it--I have used my Pro 15s and Pro Subs for 5years without problems, get the best rates on ebay or nearly new.

Obviously you can always get better if you pay more ( as with everything)

Probably since you told them their products were so reasonable--they put the prices up;)

Thanks for responses....What alternatives would you recomend (medium to large halls), JBL / Wharefdale? Thanks

Seems to be a common fault with the carpet on these Peavy speakers! Thanks

Come on fellas, we all know the UL's are streets ahead of Pro, but they're also about three times the price. ;) Added to which he'll need a bigger amp. More money again. Anybody care to make a recommendation that costs less than twice as much as his original budget? Just to get things into perspective

am aware of that excaliber - but few weeks back on ebay a piar of ul 15's 1000 watt went for £280.00 (none there at mo) - they will run on the 2600 amp he has, altho at peak power it will become distorted - but agood way of up grading bit by bit :):)

i cant speak for other speakers as i dont use them

Point taken, I stand corrected on that. A good pair of S/H UL's at that sort of price would indeed be a good buy. I was only considering new cabs. My mistake.

5 YEARS INDOOR STORAGE ---no problem other than a small corner starting to come unstuck --pass me the glue;)

If you were using Pro15s in larger halls no wonder you were struggling.

If you up the spec---i.e. bigger venues you need to up your spending otherwise your headed for trouble and that doesnt mean going to other makes necessarily.

Peavey UL15s will blow a few heads off :D :D :D

What's the difference between UL15s and Pro15s other than the UL15s play 2dB louder (a barely audible difference) and the Pro15s play 10hz lower?

They're both 90deg.H dispertion.

Tony, much as I hesitate to gainsay the Oracle, where did you get your figures from? I went on Peavey eu, and couldn't get any sensible figures.

My old ears would suggest that there's a hefty volume difference between them, and an even heftier perceived sound quality difference.

I googled them Peter. I wouldn't know one Peavey box from another to be honest, hence I looked them up to see what they were.

I have 6 ul 15 500rms model 4 tops and 2 subs and I would swear by them. 25 kg each. manageable but hard work on your own when using tops and subs, but a satisfying sound :)

I wouldnt go by figures Tony---I let my ears do the job and no Peter im not bringing them up to Yorkshire;)

The UL15s have Black Widows, more powerful horns, Poplar Wood Construction and outpower the Pro15s by a considerable margin in the real world of gigging.

Weight wise I can just about get them up on stands myself---sometimes I get lucky and a fellow Forum Member happens to be passing and does the job for me.

Must have been Xmas

Thanks again Mr M --I owe you:)
