Following on from the "Not working" NYE thread I thought for those of us that are working needed our own thread :D

Looks like I'll start then ;)


I'm doing a Wedding over at Hassop Hall for a submariner in the evening, so looking forward to that one. Daytime I'm off over to Belper Leisure centre to give Sam a hand setting up my 4m rig with movers etc.

I have about 4ft max to set-up in, so it should be interesting lol!

I'm working in Kilmarnock Football Club - Hotel with full pyro and video rig out working along side Band....Ohhhh the fun to be had...

We are working the Haydock Thistle as the main cabaret. Easy job really.

Background for the buffet meal. Then 1 x 45 minute vocal set, 20 minutes fill, then another 45 minute vocal set. That should take us to midnight. Do the countdown and thow them out for fireworks. they should get back in at twenty past midnight. Finish at 1:00am and pack down.

Did it last year and it was so easy, so looking forward to it.

I'm doing a pub in Wimbledon.

I've done a quiz there on Thursdays for the last 2 or 3 years, before that I did a Sunday quiz there for a year or two and I did their NYE disco the year before last, as well as several other discos (the last one being for halloween)...so I know the punters & staff pretty well!

It's an easy gig, as it's only a 15 minute drive (tops), access isn't too much of a problem and I believe it finishes at 12.30am.

Should be a good night.

doing a workingman's club up the south wales valleys for 3rd year in a row alongsider an artist. was there on boxing night too. it's usually a good night with the artist on for 2x 45mins sets along with encore no doubt and then the dancefloor is mine from 11pm - 1am with new year countdown etc

Looking forward to New Year's Eve at a local pub 10 mins away- Has a lovely atomosphere and supports real ale drinkers, massive large open fireplace so I reckon it's going to be quite a lively atmosphere - local's only by ticket only 8pm-1.30am.

I'm in the middle of nowhere in Wales, no phone signal but free WiFi!

They're all eating at the momen, all of 29 guests! Been setup about for half an hour, they'll be coming through about 9.30 apparantley. Then theres a bagpiper from 11.30 - 12midnight, though I assume he'll stop for me to do the countdown. Then fireworks at midnight, and 2am finish, though I can't see it going for that long unless more people arrive later.

Advantage was it was also a young lady's birthday! She wanted her photo taken with the DJ (maybe I should start charging for image rights!!) and I got lots of NY kisses and cuddles from just about every female under the age of 50 there!

I was at the same hotel I have done the Xmas parties at for the last 11 years. First time they have asked me to do NYE as they normally have a band. Sold out a week before Xmas but management still a little nervous. Punters arrived average age 60's and they looked aprehensive about having a disco. Background from 7.30 till 10 for fantastic meal then started slowly and gently till floor full by 10.30 and stayed that way till 1 am. Previous years with the band everone left at 12.30. Standing ovation and loads of compliments and thanks at the end. Guess who's booked for next year already!

I was in a very nice pub in a nice area.
They sold 175 tickets so the place was packed and the landy said that i did a exellent job and that she will book me for future events, but i had to ask people to move away from my equipment at least 4 times and at one piont i had to kill the music and say, that if the people in front of me did not move back a couple of feet because my gear was being bumped into, the music would be stopped.:eek:
I know a lot of pubs are like this, but after picking up about five glases of drinks from the floor about an inch from my starcloth and one glass that some one put on my speaker ( and i am talking about a tops speasker not a base bin) i dont think that i would do the same pub again on a new years eve.

mine should probably go in the good gig bad gig when ive gotthe energy to write it.

despite the gig - in Harlech, Wales - I drove down from manchester - I ended up in a freak snow storm miles from anywhere - 15 miles from the nearest town and the snow was the worst ive ever seen - by the time id ground to a halt it was almost covering the wheels and the entire under carriage of the car was blocked with snow.

had to stay in the car overnight, couldnt sleep as it was way way too cold. kept trying to shovel further up the road but it was just getting worse and worse.

no phone signals nothing.

was eventually rescued the following afternoon (today) by a forrester in a sooped up landrover who had come up by accident to take photos. he explained that no one would be coming up in these conditions as they just shut the roads at both ends and leave it to thaw - they dont plow, grit or check the road - he said i could have been up there for days - unless i walked to the nearest town, Bala - 15 miles away!! :eek:


anywho, he didnt have a tow rope - so ........ we used a thick speakon cable !! and although it snapped twice it managed to pull me to the dry roads about 8 miles away...


all in all took 15 hours to get home!!

worse id paid upfront for a hotel room that i didnt even get chance to use!!



home now - shattered, but undeterred.

Good God, that sounds like a night mare, so you could not phone the Venue and you could have been there for another night:eek: .

I travel down to Harlech from Manchester ever NYE (100+ miles) as I love the gig and make a short holiday of it.

2 of my friends were working in Rhuddlan about 60 miles away so I had booked a hotel near them - finish the gig, drive back up have a drink with them and stay at the hotel.

I was around 25 miles from Harlech venue and 40 from Rhuddlan - ie right in the middle of nowhere - hadnt seen a house or car in miles. completely caught me cold as apart from this 10 mile area everywhere was fine!

there was no phone signal for orange or tmobile and none of the texts i sent to people got through. so i was starting to kind of get a bit worried...

luckily the forrester was the most helpful guy in the world, and really did save the day ...... dont know if it was lack of sleep - id probably been awake 30 hours by then - but i offered him a free disco if he and his wife ever needed one as a thank you! :beer1: .... he did look a bit confused to whether that was a good reward or not! :)

Was an awesome gig at the Alnwick Castle North Shields until they let a bunch of charvers in at the last minute who were on the dancefloor all night and kept dancing or jumping into my gear all night. Other than that great still havn't lost the ability to mix an aweswome house set if I do say so myself.
