Is this a bit cheeky?

Hi guys, I don't really post much but heard about something yesterday that I thought might warrant a little discussion.
I was talking to a parent at a children's party I was doing and she said that at the last party they had been to, the DJ got all the children to the front of the stage and gave them all a business card so that "when it was their birthday they would have his number". Is is it just me, because I thought this might have been a bit cheeky, or do some see this as an acceptable marketing strategy?
Your views on this please.

And me too! Not just business cards, though. Pens go down well also! ;)

But loads of companies use kids to put pressure on their parents to buy stuff. Toys and "sweets 'n' treats" manufacturers for a start.

Cheeky, maybe, but all is fair in love and business! :D

definately not the best way of doing things imo, children lose things so easily, we take a tatoo artist and get our number tatoo'ed on them so they don't lose it:)

We procure job lots of balloons, bubbles, key rings etc ....off ebay and do the bags ourselves.....so it would be easy to do!!

We don't ....but maybe i'm missing an opportunity:eek:

Personally, I can't see the problem with giving kids cards. I'm sure I've seen Mr Mayhem do something similar or at least say it on the mic.

Another good one for kids is those windmill toys printed with your name, logo and contact details. Kids love them. Parents think you're great for keeping the kids happy and quiet for two minutes. And your advertising/contact details is right in front of them which will help your name come to their mind when they need a DJ. It's a win-win situation!

All good, cheap and effective advertising and marketing!

photo keyrings?

photo of the child and friends at the front... business card at the back and give the keyring to them.

make sure its ok to take photos of the children first because you know how it is taking photos of kids nowadays at parties.

Im sure if you found a supplier you could get the keyring plastic things cheap enough

or a cheaper alternative is to print some certificates for the winners of the party games and put your details on that somewhere. Of course a kid will be proud to have won a party game and will take it home to their parents.

and then.... they will or might notice the disco name and numbers.

Not something I'd do personally, but I've seen plenty of others do it. Other strategies which seem to be popular include:

* Giving the kids a card with the times tables on one side and the your name/number/website on the other and making a big deal of it as an "educational aid"

* Handing out colouring pictures at the end and telling the kids that if they colour them in and send them back to the DJ then he'll laminate them and send them back along with a small packet of sweeties. My daughter went to a party recently and being a colouring fanatic, actually coloured the picture, so I sent it back and fair play to the DJ, he did exactly what he said he would within a few days and sent it back laminated with a packet of sweets :)

* Selling party bags as part of the package, printed with your company name and number. Another one my daughter has had recently herself, though the bags in this case were paper, the name of the DJ does stick in my mind... "DJ BOF" (DJ Bags Of Fun).

That would be my "Bumble 'B' Chant" mate,

It is done very "Tounge in cheek" but saying that it works very well for me!!!

If you do kids parties line up the adults near the end with the children facing them and do this chant and you will have loadsa cards asked for.

Cheesy maybe, but believe me chaps it works well.

Loads of good ideas.....But if you put on a :Censored: good show...capture the childrens imagination....keep them away from Mum and Dad so they can get Rat:Censored: ed :eek: then you won't have to try these tactics.....
cos they'll ask YOU for one....;)
