Peak limiter

I am looking for something that will attenuate large peaks, e.g. +12db, some thing like a peak limiter.
Does anyone know of a simple unit that will do this, I don’t want something that has loads of bells and whistles.

I hope this makes sense, I not the best technical wiz

Suitable compressor/limiter devices fall into two camps - those which you place on the FOH signal path before the LMS/amps, to lock down and leave alone simply to provide loudspeaker protection (normally for dry hire applications) and those that will be tweaked/babysat by an engineer or technician, to compress individual channels (or groups) on insert points.

The two winners in the first category are the Formula Sound AVC2 and the Drawmer SP2120

In the second category, the comps I usually use (as we have a rack of them), both for live mixing and babysitting DJs, is the dbx 1066, with it's renowned PeakStop Plus limiting.

Easy to set up and doesn't colour the sound. I'll normally allow it up to +7dB, the point just below gain reduction on the D12s.

Do you have any tips on using the DBX unit as all those buttons and knobs look daunting! :o
