Amp in flightcase,

I currently have a flightcase with a DDS80 in it as shown in the picture. Now I've been thinking about it and I always have a laptop connected to the mixer so the cd player in the lower unit isn't really needed, and I could put the hard drive in an enclosure too, so I thought I could take the bottom unit out and replace it with a amp instead, which would reduce setup/pack down times a bit. My concern though is cooling ie the amp being in an enclosed unit.

Has anyone else done this or is it a non starter?

My first concern would be lifting the :Censored:y thing! :eek: Justin's got this mad idea about putting two in a case. I told him it would need wheels fitting. ;) :D :D

I'm not sure there's much to be gained by putting the amp in there. Cons outweigh the pros in my book. The mk7 beta version of mine will feature an extra case for flexibility, rather than building so many components into one case.

Weight would be my concern - try it - then try lifting it up those stairs at home

I have a similar set up but have a DAC2 where you have a blanking plate, I did think about putting an amp in the lower unit but as my amp weighs a ton and I thought if anything goes wrong it could be a nightmare I decided against it, so I put my lighting controller & an active crossover in there, although I'm thinking about putting a graphic equaliser in there.
If you did put your amp in I think it would need to be a front to back twin cooling fan model.

I've got a 4U rack case with a warrior DA1300 in. I was thinking adding another in the spare slots. 'But' im just not strong enough to pick the damn things up afterwards!

Need some wheels... but that doesn't help on stairs!

Its very heavy and front loaded (tilts forward when you lift it). I wouldn't be tempted to add an amp in there as my two amps are seriously heavy. They live in a 14u castored box that wheels in and out of venues. I am considering buying a ramp to make in and out of the trailer easier too.

Also I wouldn't want an amps heat near my Hard Drives and playout system.

Our console has the amp in it and is very heavy- pretty much a 2 man job.
We have thought about taking it out but the simplicity of set up is really a big advantage so for the time being its staying as it is.

Never had any issues with cooling, although I did choose a case that has extra space at the rear, and it also has a small door on the back too that we can open if required.

I have a DA800 amp with dual cd unit in a 4u case and that it heavy enough, weighs around 35kg.

I'd definitely keep them separate - amps weigh a ton! It also means that if you ever buy actives or connect into someone else's PA, you're going to be carrying a lot of weight for no good reason.

Hmmm, thanks for all your replies t gives me alot to think about, the amp in question in a Crown XLS 602. I'm not sure of the weight difference between the cd/hard drive unit and the amp but I think I might just have a play one afternoon and see.

The flightcase is heavy as it is and is a two man job now so being a bit heavier (if it is just a "bit" heavier") would be worth it for the time it would save.
