80's and early 90's 45 rpm vinyl's discovered

Hi all

Me and my fiance have just been sorting out her cuboard and have stumbled across a total of 35 vinyl records (45rpm's) complete with original covers that have rarely been used. They are all vinyls from the 1980's and early 1990's and I have had a look and they are in pretty mint condition. She has said she doesn't want these any longer and we were wondering if anyone had any idea what they would be worth and where we would be best selling these. We have initially thought of a local vinyl record store or on ebay but then I thought I would see what some of you thought first before we make a decision...

You'll probably find the bulk of it is pretty much worthless, it really does need to be a limited print or sleeve to be worth anything.

Agreed.

As a guide, when I sold all my 7" vinyl, I got 10p each for them.

He hasn't listed anything as yet so you can't assume that it will all be worthless.

A guy I know went to a charity shop a few years back and picked up a dodgy old battered Gary Numan 7" single. It had 25p written on it in pencil. He looked inside and it was a green vinyl version of the track 'We are Glass'. Now, I used to seriously colllect Numan stuff and I know lots of collectors who were far more serious than I was and had bigger and better collections.

This story was posted on a collectors forum a couple of years ago because it turned out that the Green vinyl the guy had purchased was a one-off. It had never been heard of and was not known in the collecting community. It was eventually listed on Ebay and sold for around £1300!

I would still keep hold of them - they may not be worth anything yet but you never know..........

Look on Discogs, (http://www.discogs.com) this will give you an indication of what they are worth. Don't accept offers off people until you've checked yourself, as you could be kicking yourself if you notice one you sold go for a fortune.

I sold vinyl in my shop at one point, Only record shop in the area.

Word spread and things were great at first, then the time wasters started to appear asking if I could source a certain record. I would find it and they would never return....lol
Regulars were popping through spending about 2 hours going through them all and eventually spending £40-£50.
Then it all went quiet the trade dropped off, couldn't justifythe upkeep any longer and I ended up ebaying the whole lot to a buyer who turns them into bowls and placemats:eek:

Unless you have some minters, you may aswell hold on to them.
I came across an original 'Alice Cooper - Schools Out' still with the knickers....lol....And a few 7" singles that are slowly increasing in price.
