Me @ my residency in Tenerife.

Thought I'd post a few old pics of me working in my old Tenerife residency (side saddling lol) Rhythm & Booze.

1st pic you see, sat down to my right is Titch from Dave, Dee, Dozy Mick & Titch who used to come and watch my last hour after compere'in his own residency across the road.

The pic with the girls and the bloke pointing to their heads is The Court Of King Caractacus competition we used to do, girl next to me is my sister she worked as a waitress there.

The couple wearing wigs is ABBA tribute we had, the bloke was a holiday maker.

The one with me and the old bloke is "My Big Gay Grandad" who is an awesome cocktail barman who was with us for over 3 years, singing "What do you wanna make those eyes at me for" to the fellas, Paul O'Grady has nothing on him lol.

And the one with all the holiday makers jumping my stage well that's just me in my element LOL !

I was there for over 5 years as resident Compere/DJ/Quiz Master, the good old days :D

Thought I'd share as things seem a bit strained on here of recent :p

don't know why you take the :Censored: all the time about me and Sidesaddle....That is a great indication of how it suits some occasions....particularly Karaoke.Those pics would look well diluted with a stand on front of them!!

Imagine having the confidence to deliver your Disco in that fashion.I think one of the younger DJ's does it on this site too...it could well be the future.So how about a few of you coming from behind the booth....sticking your Starcloth on a truss BEHIND you and shooting down the image of the Archetypal 70'S DJ.:sofa:

I do karaoke like that, but don't call it side saddle and don't bang on about it at every opportunity.

I should imagine that there are plenty of people who have enough confidence to do it, but choose not to.

I like a barrier between me and the guests when I am DJing.

I am going to retire abroad and do something similair in the next few years.We always look back at the past with affection...but imagine there were times when the long hours....drunk Brits..and constant sun.....jarred you off.Just guessing.:confused: ;) :cool:

An awful lot of drinking as the holiday makers would seem to forget you lived there " Ah come on have a drink (or 10) " was a favourite line of theirs. After 2 years I went T-total for 6 months but eventually fell off the wagon :o

6 nights a week 5 hours a night gets tiring, but at least its just walk in, turn the gear on and away you go. Your also right in saying the weather gets on your nerves, you start to dream and wish for cold, frost bitten winter mornings, but hey, grass is always greener isn't it ;) :D Happy days though :)

I love holidays......

Early 80's I was a Butlinred in Scarborough.When your at a holiday destination week after week month after month year after year it puts a different complexion on things.Fed up with everything at the end...entertaining,booze and women(nearly said birds).

Worse hours than you too!!

Some days, some venues and punters, I'd like a 12ft brieze block construction between me and them. ;)

Quite a few years ago, in a couple of venues in particular, I would often set the rig up facing the wall, rather than the punters.
Pros: No wasted space, especially with lightboxes against the wall, lightboxes more stable, it allowed bands to share the space more easily, and also allowed punters to speak to you more easily.

Cons: You often had your back to the audience.

OK, a question for everybody. When punters come up for a request, do you perfer them to stay at the front, or come round the back of the rig? ( Waits for somebody to say "prefer side" :D :D ) I really really hate to see them at the front, I'd far sooner they came round the quiet side. ;) I get the impression that many of them feel that there's no way they're going to be allowed into the hallowed area, that we'll berate them or something. Thoughts?

i argee with what your saying peter but I think facing front on to the guests is the best way to set up.

Does anyboy ever go home with that lovely warm glow...knowing that it's been a banging evening......and you haven't had to play a request all night.
That is Utopia.It also means your music choice has been outstaning too.
