Another job bites the dust.

Third time this year another job goes begging.

Just keep losing jobs where we have been recommended, I get the enquiry from the groom only to get a call a week or so later saying, sorry our parents have booked someone and as they are paying not a lot we can do.

This year is going to be seriously hard in all respects.

Oh well you can but try. Not much more you can get than personal recommendations. Back to the drawing board.

Angie I was joshing with NKR.


Clearly he feels he is going to feel the pinch this year...but his posts make it clear that this is not his primary income...and that he has a well paid day job.
I would hope nobody on here does this for nothing...so the chances are money,wages,fees,expenditure are going to come up in a lot of posts....

Funny the groom didn't know his or his fiances parents were going to book the evening receptions entertainment, you'd think they'd discuss these things huh? ;)

I will let him off on that as I do okay. I just hate losing jobs.

I am having a down day as lost a couple of jobs and my web site is still not done. That's what happens when people say they will do you something as a favour, but ho hum.

To answer one of the other responses, its not unusual for bossy brides parents to book the entertainment. We have been booked that way so what goes around come around.

Also my predictions for an economic come back in April are looking grossly Alice in Wonderland. I think this year is going to be worse than last. I think the government have used QE (which will be pulled next month) to kick the problem into the long grass where it has continued to grow. (Its like hair of the dog - keep drinking and the hangover stays away, but the eventual hang over is inevitable and will be bigger)
Inflation is round the corner (well its here in asset pricing. I can't fathom how stuff is being valued at the moment), followed by interest rate rises and job loses fueling the property correction that is so far missing from the equation. I wish they would just let it fall so we can pick the pieces up rather than being like a bunch of wilderbeast being picked off one by one.

Yeah I will no doubt feel better tomorrow and crack on as usual. Just rather tired as have been doing the accounts all weekend and last couple of daus and ripping CD's and doing the day job. Plus little fella keeps waking in the night so not getting proper sleep either.

Its all good fun.

I need that web site, so at least I know its there and we are not just relying on agency and word of mouth.

You'll get used to this once you get the website up and generate plenty of enquiries. It's a numbers game sometimes.. not everyone will be your customer, even with all the marketing and attempts to put off the price-hunters :D

I find this really strange, because in my experience about 75% of bookings are made by the bride and bout 25% by the groom.

I find it very rare for the parents to make the booking. I have one wedding this year which HAS been booked by the brides mother, but I think that's my first one ever!

I've had quite a few where the parents are paying, but leave the selection up to the kids. If I know this in advance, I always invite them to the pre-meeting and on the promise of a bit of Elvis or Buble (or whatever) I'll warm them up too :o

Hot tip which I find works wonders - if B or G have a 'full set' of parents, find out what their first dance/"their song" is/was and slot it into the proceedings, ideally right after THE first dance. If both B AND G have a set, then play both and get them to swap partners a couple of times. Magic :D

In the past 2 days I have received over 16 Enquiries, more than December and November put together.

With my website out there I am getting these enquiries, without it I probably would have had 3!
