Hi everyone.As title.Have you tryed to build 2 decks and mixer flight case/coffin?How much t ime did you spend and money to finish it?

Not that specific flightcase, but I have made custom cases in the past, and my own opinion is that it isn't worth it - once you total the materials and time designing and making it.
That said, it becomes a lot more feasible if you have access to proper tools (ie. a fully equipped workshop)

I have skills and tools.The only concern is these slots for cd drives.They will be in the middle of plywood wall.In this case i had to make some parts removable to enable push cd disc to slots.I do not know what to do.
Maybe is company maing them,they can send me materials and i could build it.Sounds stupid idea?
Well i'd like to save some money.

Also no matter how hard you try they always seem to look 'home-made'.

I counted up whole cost and to build average looking and quite strong case would cost not much less than average flight case which companies making them and sell on ebay.
Problem is not to build and spend time but you will not get any good discount from suppliers to buy hardware,companies do.

Thanks guys for your inputs.The other thing is that you'll find a flightcase without the doors for the CDs, for a lot less. The earlier CDJs were top loading.

Yeah,but then you have to buy hinges and do cut outs.

Yeah,but then you have to buy hinges and do cut outs.Not necessarily, there are other options, such as improvising a mechanism to lift the CDJs up when the flightcase is opened. Possibly not feasible, though.

This is the best advice you are ever gonna get on DIY cases. Don't even contemplate it if you've only got a jigsaw, a hammer and nails, and an over-active imagination.
There are so many suppliers at there now vying for our custom, prices have come right down. It always makes sense to go down the path of least resistance, unless you really want to learn are prepared to sink some money in doing so.
Like cabinet building, it looks a lot easier when others do it.
Agreed buy custom or standard cases from case suppliers.
You would need to spend virtually the same on materials and need to have proper joiners tools(big bench saw for starters) and a pot rivet gun (a decent one not one for a tenner off ebay)
All in all unless you are good with building stuff, just leave it to the experts.
Plus a good case looks a million dollars and rolls into a venue looking like you mean business. A slightly dodgy home made one looks like amateur night at the zoo.

You'got point with good looking case.But if you buy all hardware properly,measure,cut,drill and assemble than there is no way you will do it wrong.I have done project with all measurements already.
Main reason is costs of hardware will be about 100-110 pounds so only 20 pounds cheaper than any ebay flight case for 130+ 10 pounds delivery.
I know you can buy old case and custome it.I checked prices and still sellers want about 100 pounds for them.If you can find cheap one then is about 300mm longer than I need,so not very good.

We have built some of our own cases (using proper tools and materials).
It isn't really cheaper than an off-the-shelf case (if at all) and if you factor in your time as worth anything at all, it is a good bit more expensive.
The only benefit, is that you get a bespoke case.

How long to build? If it takes you more than 3 hours are you really worth only £10 a hour.
Buy a case - wait for it to arrive - look at it and go 'Hell Yeah Thats a Good Case'. Put your stuff in it and rock and roll.
The additional £30 is additional tax write off anyway.

Something I forgot to mention of course, was that a 'DIY' case can be fully customised to your exact needs. A custom case would cost extra from a flightcase manufacturer, so it's worthwhile taking that into consideration too.
You know its a long haul when you have actually Ripped B*Witched Cest La Vie to your hard drive. I even actually played it for a laugh.What's wrong with C'est La Vie?? :confused: Brilliant tune! :D
